WSJ: Next iPhone (iPhone 5/iPhone 2012) to use super-thin in-cell screen technology

The Wall Street Journal reports today that the next generation iPhone will use a super-thin screen technology. The new technology is called in-cell, and will combine the screen and the digitizer into one.

Current digitizers take up space, making this new technology thinner. The removal of the digitizer will also make this screen cheaper to manufacture. Image quality will also be slightly improved due to the removal of the digitizer. The reports details that LCD makers Sharp and Japan Display are already mass producing these new panels for the next generation iPhone.
