Unity3D graphics engine coming to Windows Phone 8

Many game developers have complained that Windows Phone 7 and 7.5 lacked support for the Unity3D graphics engine. The reason for this was that Microsoft didn’t allow native code to be run on current generation Windows Phones. Luckily, this is about changes with Windows Phone 8. After a few early rumors on Twitter today, Unity Technologies finally confirmed that its graphics engine will be coming to Windows Phone 8, as well as Windows 8. Above you can see how Shadowgun, a game using the Unity3D graphics engine, looks like on the iPhone.

Our mission at Unity has always been to provide solutions for developers to effortlessly bring their work to as many different platforms as possible. The Unity community has been asking for access to Windows Phones and have been eagerly anticipating the release of Windows 8. We’re happy to announce that we will support both.
