Several users have found their iOS device bricked after applying a firmware update. The update goes through well, but after the update it should call back home to get activated, and this is where the problems begin.
Apple’s Activation Servers are currently offline. After the update the device can’t be activated, thus resulting in a bricked device. This is also a problem with new devices, since they also need to be activated before a user can actually use them.
The error message shown in iTunes:
There is a problem with your device.
We’re sorry, the device you connected may be damaged and cannot be activated for service. We recommend you visit your nearest Apple Store for more information. To find your nearest Apple Store, click here.
At the time of writing this post, Apple hasn’t given a schedule on when the problem should be fixed. DO NOT upgrade your device’s firmware before Apple gets this sorted!!
