Sony Ericsson has posted a video showing you how to update your XPERIA X10 from Android 1.6 to Android 2.1.
The update should be available in the coming few hours. This is at least what Sony Ericsson promised when they said they will deliver the update before the end of this month. At the time of writing this post they still have around 4 hours to do it here in Scandinavia, so they’re still on time :)
Sony Ericsson today announced that they will begin rolling out the long awaited software update to Android 2.1. The XPERIA X10 family will receive the update starting this Sunday. Scandinavia will be the first market where it is released, so don’t get paranoid if you won’t receive it this Sunday :)

HD video recording with continuous auto-focus for high quality videos
Upgrade of the Android platform to Android 2.1

Xperia X10 mini and X10 mini pro:

New backup and restore application with extended content back up
Automatic synchronization of your contact pictures between Facebook and your phone book
Improved ways of handling pictures, audio, text and numbers in your messages
Upgrade of the Android platform to Android platform 2.1
Sony Ericsson has published the first official promo video showing the benefits of upgrading to Android 2.1. Even though there’s a text in the video that the update is available now, it isn’t. You still have to wait a little longer to get your hands on the Android 2.1 love for the XPERIA X10 series.
Sony Ericsson released a few new videos showing the XPERIA X10 running on Android 2.1. They also wrote that the update is still on track to be released in the coming few weeks (late October). It will be rolled out gradually, but the first devices should receive it by the end of this month.
First video out is a short clip showing the home screen that now has 5 panes and some other nice additions such as 5 rows of icons instead of 4. I also show some new widgets that come with the update.
I also made these two videos to show the HD video result. The first one shows a more real life use case where I move the phone from filming a far away object to a much closer one.
In this second video I instead kept the X10 on the tripod and introduce a close object into the scene. This is more of a stress test and it does struggle a little bit in the first attempt but is much quicker in the second one.
Another new and interesting phone appeared today at the place where I work – the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8. It is a very nice phone that I’d imagine being a phone for a tech-junkies girlfriend :) It has Android and it’s cute.

Sony Ericsson today announced that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X8 is now shipping.
The XPERIA X8 comes with 3″ touch screen, 3G, WiFi, 3.2MP camera, 3.5mm audio-jack, GPS and Android 1.6 for now. But just like the X10, also the X8 will be updated to Android 2.1 later this year. The phone sits spec and size wise right in between the XPERIA X10 and XPERIA X10 mini.
A roadmap for Sony Ericsson’s Android update plans for the XPERIA series has leaked. According to it, there will not be anything above 2.1, ever. It’s also interesting to see that the new XPERIA X8 is bundled in the same update schedule as the X10 mini and X10 mini pro.
The Xperia X10 will receive for instance HD video capture when SE releases the Eclair update (Android 2.1). There will also be an update to 2.1x, which could mean that we will see a maintenance release after the first 2.1 gets seeded.
