Joe Marini, Principal Program Manager for IE Mobile, said that IE9 Mobile for Windows Phone was now “code complete”. This means that there will not be any new features added from this point and forward. The team will now focus on ironing out bugs, and doing performance tuning. The main focus is on the graphics performance.

Ever since Microsoft started talking about IE9 Mobile, they’ve talked speed. At MIX 11 they showed a development version of IE9 Mobile on a WP7 device running different speed tests. In the demo, the browser managed to do a specific test at 23 frames per second. Android did 11 fps, and iOS only 2 fps. Now, IE9 Mobile achieves 27 frames per second.

We will most probably see a speed demo at tomorrow’s WP7 Mango event in New York.

Windows Phone 7.5 event

A bombshell for this Sunday – 9 new Windows Phone 7 devices coming next week!? According to a WMPowerUser tipster, this is the case, and we’ll really see the next-generation of WP devices being released next week.

Two of these devices will be manufactured by HTC, two by Acer, one by Dell and a whopping four by Samsung. The lonely Dell device will most probably be the Dell Wrigley, that was seen in a roadmap earlier this year. At least one of the Samsung device’s will resemble the Galaxy S II.

Let’s hope this is true, and we have a massive Windows Phone information week to come!

Microsoft has been sending out invites to Windows Phone 7.5 events around the world. The first event will be held in New York, May 24.

In Poland, a journalist of the site WP-7.pl, received the invite you see above. The invite is pretty special since it includes an actual fresh mango! I like this kind of special treatment :)

The HTC Trophy will hit Verizon Wireless on May 26. The HTC Trophy is priced at $149.99 with a two-year-contract and after a mail-in rebate. If you buy the device before June 15, you’ll also get a free copy of Halo: Reach, Kinect Sports or Lode Runner for your Xbox 360.

Those of you who don’t know what the HTC Trophy has eaten, here is a short spec list:

  • Windows Phone 7
  • 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU
  • 3.8-inch capacitive display, WVGA resolution
  • 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video recording
  • 16GB internal storage
  • WiFi b/g/n
  • GPS

Good to hear that also Verizon picks up the Windows Phone 7 platform. Previously the only CDMA carrier to support the platform was Sprint.

Nokia Concept Windows Phone 7s

It seems like the world is waiting to hear more about the Nokia and Microsoft deal, and when we’ll actually see some Windows Phone powered Nokia’s in the store.

Now we have a little more insight into this, when Denis Liudkovski, boss of Russia’s second largest retailer Sviaznoj, stated that his stores will get the Nokia Windows Phone before the end of this year. He extracted this bit of information from a meeting with Stephen Elop himself, where they discussed Sviaznjo’s Nokia shop-in-shop concept.

“We are the key Nokia partner in Russia. Thanks’ to the cooperation agreements on the “shop-in-shop”  format, all the newest models show up at Sviaznoj earlier then in competing outlets…. We expect that the first Windows Mobile based Nokia smartphone will show up in our stores before the end of 2011”.

I really do hope that Nokia’s first Windows Phone device will hit the stores during this year!

Angry Birds XBOX Live WP7

Angry Birds fanatics need to wait a little bit longer for the game to be released for Windows Phone 7. The game was supposed to be released on May 25, but has been delayed by over a month to June 29. There’s no word on what caused the delay, but Microsoft commented that when the game is available on June 29, it will cost $2.99 and include 195 levels.

Other big games for Windows Phone 7 that will see the light of day in the future:

  • Hydro Thunder GP, May 25
  • Doodle Jump, June 1
  • Geodefense, June 8
  • Sonic The Hedgehog Episode 1, June 15
  • Plants vs Zombies, June 22

Samsung has today released a patch for those who experienced an update error when trying to update their Omnia 7 to software version 7392. If you got the update error 801812C1 when applying the udpate, then this patch is for you!

The software will fix the bricked device, and will let you update it again using Zune. After the update finishes, the Omnia 7 should run the post-NoDo update with build 7392.

If the device got successfully updated to version 7392 prior to today’s patch, then there should be no need for the user to install this patch.

People who weren’t happy with how operators were pushing out Windows Phone 7 updates. To obtain the update as soon as possible, some of these used an unofficial updating system called the ChevronWP7.Updater.

This updated the phone to NoDo, but since it used an undocumented way to install the update, it left the phones in a state where they couldn’t be updated anymore. Users received an error code 80180048 when trying to apply an update via Zune.

Luckily this same guy, Chris Walsh, has now released a new tool to let users out of this update misery. The update will fix what the ChevronWP7.Updater did wrong, and will put you back on the regular update track. The tool is also approved by Brandon Watson, so it should to use!
