HTC Ignite Windows Phone 7

Eldar Murtazin today tweeted a very interesting little tweet. According to him, Nokia R&D is currently working on 4 Windows Phone 7 devices. Two of these would be of Chassis 1, and two of Chassis 2. We still don’t know what the Chassis 2 will be, but it is rumored to be a cheaper version of the Chassis 1.

Here’s what Mr. Murtazin tweeted:

Nokia R&D – 4 Windows Phone 7 and 1 tablet (Win8 presumably). 2 phones used chassis 1, 2 based on chassis 2 – like HTC Ignate (middle end)

The HTC Ignite is something that came up a few weeks ago. It is said to come with a 800MHz CPU and a 3.7-inch resistive screen. Currently Chassis 1 requires a 1GHz CPU, and a capacitive screen.

Two Nokia devices that use Chassis 1 would be high-end, and the two Chassis 2 designs probably more in the middle-end range.

ZTE Windows Phone 7

ZTE told a few days ago that they’re working on a Windows Phone 7 device. They took this back today, and told that it is only R&D, with no final product in sight. Nonetheless, the device above is a ZTE made Windows Phone 7 device.

Update: Sorry about that folks, it looks to be an old ZTE Windows Mobile 6.1 device. Thank you Jani for pointing this out.

Nokia Windows Phone 7

Stephen Elop, Nokia’s CEO, told Reuters today that the company is already working on their first Windows Phone 7 device. This is very exciting news, and I’m really eager to see the outcome of this partnership. It is possible that we’ll see the first Nokia device announced before the end of this year!

Elop also commented on the rumors that Microsoft is going to acquire Nokia:

“I’m not aware of a strategic interest that Microsoft would have in the rest of the business,” Elop said.

“To the extent that a partnership has been formed around what they’re really interested in, then what would an acquisition bring other than a good year of anti-trust investigation, huge turmoil, delays?”

Demand for Windows Phone 7 is growing steadily. ZTE is the latest manufacturer to inform that they will support Windows Phone 7. ZTE’s Wu Sa spoke at a press event in London today, and confirmed that Windows Phone 7 in fact is in their roadmap, and that we could expect the first device to hit the market in 2012. MeeGo is also getting some love from ZTE, but currently we don’t know when they’ll release a device with MeeGo to the public.

It looks like 2012 will be a very interesting year for Windows Phone 7! I’m really looking forward for the devices from Nokia, ZTE and all the other manufacturers that will bring a new WP7 device to the market.

Check out this very interesting interview with Nokia CEO Stephen Elop. Nokia almost chose Android over WP7. Good thing they didn’t :)

Here’s is yet another fan made Windows Phone 7 had for you. It’s really impressive!

Here is yet another Windows Phone 7 NoDo update walkthrough. WinRumors weren’t that happy with the implementation, and were unhappy with the inability to copy and paste images.

This is however how Microsoft told the update will work, ONLY with TextBoxes/TextAreas. So, the lack of image copy & paste support was expected.
