Samsung Wave - S8500

Samsung S8500 Wave

Samsung has began seeding bada 2.0 for owners of the original Samsung S8500 Wave. The update is now available in some parts of the world, and the rollout will continue in stages. This means that not everyone will receive the update today! The best thing you can do is to use Samsung Kies on your PC to see if the update is already available in your region. Enjoy!

Many Samsung bada fans are in for a disappointment now. Samsung just used their @samsungbada twitter account to confirm that bada 1.2 will not be coming to devices with a WQVGA screen. Currently nearly every bada device out there are running this screen resolution, including the Wave 525, 533, 575, 578 and 723. What does that leave left? Only the Wave and Wave II will receive bada 1.2? Does this mean that these devices will not be updated to bada 2.0 either? Bada 2.0 is expected to be released in September.

Wave 1.2Samsung just informed via their official Twitter account that Wave 1 owners should be receiving bada 1.2 now. You need to update your Kies software to be able to download the new update.

Samsung Wave vs Samsung Wave II

Ever wondered how the Samsung Wave II differs from the original Samsung Wave?

The most noticeable change is the screen. On the original Wave we have a 3.3-inch Super AMOLED screen, while the Wave II again comes with a bigger 3.7-inch Super Clear LCD screen. The newer Wave II has bada 1.2 pre-installed, while the older comes with bada 1.0 (bada 1.0.2). Other than that, I can’t really see a difference in them!

Samsung bada 2.0 roadmap

Samsung France held a press conference late last week where they announced that the first Samsung device running bada 2.0 will be released sometime in September. The bada OS 2.0 will be released in July, so existing Wave devices could see the update hit their phones after this.

They didn’t have a name for this new device yet, but they shed some light on what specs the device will have.

Specs for the still unnamed Samsung bada 2.0 device:

  • 3.65-inch touch-sensitive display
  • 7.2 Mbps HSDPA radio
  • 5-megapixel rear-facing camera with a VGA front-facing one
  • Support for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and NFC
  • A second bada 2.0 device will follow sometime in November. Specs for the second device:

A second bada 2.0 smartphone is expected to follow in November, but it will be more of a mid-end device with a relatively modest 3.14-inch QVGA display and a 3-megapixel camera

    Samsung Wave - S8500

Samsung posted two interesting tweets last week. They give us an idea on when to expect Bada 1.2 for European SIM-free Waves (S8500).

    The first tweet looks this:

bada 1.2 Firmware update will be available early next year for European SIM free Wave first

    And the second one:
Support for the rest of the world will follow during 1Q of 2011 with different update dates depending on the country and operator
So, Europe will first see the official bada 1.2 update on their Waves, and the rest of the world will follow sometime during 1Q2011.

    Samsung Wave 723

Samsung is doing a pretty good promotion for new Wave buyers – they’re offering free games! The first Wave device (S8500) is unfortunately not supported. The offer includes the following Wave devices, Wave 525, 533, 575 and 723.

If you have one of the devices mentioned earlier, you’ll be able to obtain a free copy of the following software: FIFA 10, Tetris Refresh, Spore Creatures, Assassin’s Creed II, DioDict French/English dictionary and Princess Magic Therapy e-book and SSkin theme series.

Please act as soon as possible, because FIFA 10, Tetris Refresh and Spore Creatures will be offered to 250,000 quickest downloaders, and Assassin’s Creed for 300,000 first downloaders. The rest of the apps are available for a limited time, which means that we don’t know when it will end :)

    Samsung Wave II S8530

Samsung today announced the successor to the original Wave, the Wave II (S8530). They previously announced the Wave 2, but the Wave II is the real successor of the Wave.

The Wave II comes with a larger 3.7″ Super Clear LCD screen, 1GHz CPU, HDSPA, WiFi 802.11n, Bluetooth 3.0, 3.5mm audio-jack, 5MP camera with LED flash and HD video recording, 2GB internal memory, microSD card slot and a 1,500mAh battery.

The bada OS has also gotten a few new features, like for instance T9 input method Trace. This is much like a bada version of Swype.

The Wave II should be available in November for a price of 429 €.

    Samsung Wave 723

Samsung just announced the fourth smartphone, Wave 723 or GT-S7320E, that will run on their own bada operating system (previously Wave, Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro).

The Wave 723 will come in a metal black casing, and will have the following features:

    • bada OS
    • 3.2″ TFT LCD touch screen
    • 5MP camera with dedicated camera button and a LED flash
    • microSD card slot
    • WiFi 802.11n
    • Bluetooth 3.0
    • Samsung Apps
    • Social Hub

The phone will be available in September for a price of 240€ in Europe, South Asia, Middle East Asia and African countries.

Route 66 for WaveSamsung has a long relationship with Route 66, a navigation software used in some of their phones. Now you can get lifetime navigation for your Samsung Wave, or S8500, that runs on Samsung’s bada OS.

For 29.99€, you will get lifetime navigation in one country, for 39.99€ you’ll get Eastern or Western Europe, and for 49.99€ you’ll get lifetime navigation in Europe.

Of course this isn’t the same as what Nokia is currently offering with its FREE Lifetime maps for some Nokia phones, but it certainly is worth it if you use your phone as a navigator.

The offer is valid till the end of this year, and can be bought by following this link.
