Motorola Droid 4
Little have we heard of Motorola’s Android-based Droid 4 before. This changed today when specs and images of the device in question got out in the wild. It appears that the Droid 4 will be targeted for Verizon Wireless, and it will be the first Motorola device to utilize Verizon’s fast 4G network.

Basically the Motorola Droid 4 is a Droid RAZR, but with an added physical keyboard. Specs include a 1.2GHz dual-core CPU, 1GB of RAM, 4-inch touchscreen, and an 8-megapixel rear camera with 1080p video recording and HDMI out.

Rumors tell that this device will be released as soon as December 8th. So far there is no word on the pricing.

Verizon Droid X

Numerous users have complained around the internet that the recent Android 2.3 update for their Droid X bricked the whole device. Users have reported that the screen will go black and stay that way. The device will not reboot before the battery is reset. Think twice before updating your Droid X with the most recent Android update!

Let’s hope Motorola and Verizon come up with a fix pretty soon.

The HTC Trophy will hit Verizon Wireless on May 26. The HTC Trophy is priced at $149.99 with a two-year-contract and after a mail-in rebate. If you buy the device before June 15, you’ll also get a free copy of Halo: Reach, Kinect Sports or Lode Runner for your Xbox 360.

Those of you who don’t know what the HTC Trophy has eaten, here is a short spec list:

  • Windows Phone 7
  • 1 GHz Snapdragon CPU
  • 3.8-inch capacitive display, WVGA resolution
  • 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video recording
  • 16GB internal storage
  • WiFi b/g/n
  • GPS

Good to hear that also Verizon picks up the Windows Phone 7 platform. Previously the only CDMA carrier to support the platform was Sprint.

Samsung and Verizon Wireless have started pushing out an update to the DROID Charge. The ED2 update should go out as an over-the-air update, and shouldn’t take long to download since it is only 5.2MB. This is only a minor release, with the following changes:

  • A software change was made to the Media Hub application to prevent downloading content over the 3G network. This application will only work in the 4G network or when using Wi-Fi to ensure quality and speed.
  • A pop up message was added to the Media Hub application to inform customers of the size of the download when in a 4G coverage area before downloading.

Kind of rare that you see a software update remove some functionality.

More of the update here.

Verizon has started pushing out Android 3.1 to their Motorola XOOM owners. The update will be delivered as an over the air update, and has already started going out to end-users. Android 3.1 Honeycomb includes a few interesting features, inlcuding full USB host support and inline HTML5 playback in the stock browser.

Android 3.1 Honeycomb for the Motorola XOOM is of build HMJ37.

The full changelog can be found here.

According to several sources close to Apple, iOS will receive over the air updating soon. Apple has been working together with Verizon Wireless on this. Over the Air updates are currently used by Android, Windows Phone, Symbian and webOS. iOS is the only big player who is still lacking over the air updates.

To get this to work, Apple will need to use incremental updates. Currently, every time a new OS version is released, a users needs to download a file of over 600MB. A 600MB file is something that operators do not want to deliver via their network, and therefore they will need to bring smaller updates.

There is currently no word if this will be available internationally, or just with Verizon Wireless.
