Tag: "PR1.1"

First evidence of Nokia N9′s firmware version 22.2011.44.2 appeared today on Navifirm. This usually happens right before the firmware is officially pushed to end-users. What firmware is this? Could this be PR1.2 that everyone is waiting for? Just for the record, PR1.1 is v20.2011.40-4. Keep on waiting!

Jason of Smashpop has made a video showing the features of the PR1.1 update for the Nokia N9.

The official changelog of PR1.1 includes the following changes:

  • NFC tag reading to instantly interact with NFC tags
  • Music controls on lock screen
  • Photo and video shooting with color filters: black & white, sepia, vivid, negative, solarize
  • More powerful multitasking with improved memory handling
  • Swype for fast typing
  • Faster MfE synch, synchronizing only active folders
  • Noice cancellation reduces background noise so that your friends hear you better
  • Close apps easily with swiping down, this now on by default
  • New indicators for standby screen like charging and calendar
  • etc

There are a few of you lucky users out there who have a Nokia N9 in their hand now. Most of you are running PR 1.0 as of now. The PR1.1 update has been rumored to hit in the very near future. The update is said to bring updated swipe functionality, improved boot speed, Chinese language support, and so forth.

Now we have an image of a Chinese Nokia N9 running PR1.2. This could be the Chinese alternative of PR1.1, but we can’t really say for sure. What we can say, is that the update is coming for sure! Stay tuned!

There’s nothing more rewarding for an update freak like me, but to notice that your phone has received a new firmware. Better yet, our review unit of the Nokia E7-00 received a new firmware! The new firmware is the long awaited PR1.1 for the E7. The exact version is 14.002. Fire up the Software Update tool to get it (or call *#0000#).

Nokia N8 Dark Grey

When PR1.1 was officially released for the N8-00/C7-00/C6-01 last week, we only had  a partial changelog to give to you. This has now changed, and we know a little bit more of the update.

  • MMS messages fail to send and get stuck in outbox
  • Device does not restore all settings after retuning from power saving mode

Nokia N8

Nokia today releases software update PR1.1 for the new Symbian devices – the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01. While the new Symbian software offered great performance and features from launch, the updates will make it even smoother to use.

Most of the updated features are not directly visible to end users, but together, they will enhance the user experience of each Symbian device. Both the quality and the stability of the devices will be further enhanced. In addition to numerous tweaks and fixes, there’s also some new content. More details below.

  1. Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations;
  2. Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.
  3. For Nokia N8 users:
    a. New Quick Office 6.4 editor version, which offers editing possibilities and allows zooming in & out in Word documents.
    b. Three high quality games will also be preloaded on new devices – Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire. (In some countries, Need for Speed is replaced with Asphalt 5). For current N8 users, these are available for free from Ovi Suite & Ovi Store.

You’ll be able get the update through Software Update on your device or using Ovi Suite. We’re warned that the update may be quite a large download, especially for Nokia N8 users. So make sure you’re on a free WiFi service when you choose to update or use Ovi Suite to install it.

The standard, non-customised version of the software is available from today. Country (SIM-free) and operator-specific variants will follow soon.

Nokia C7-00 PR 13.016

Nokia just released a firmware update for Nokia C7-00. The new firmware is of version 13.016 (a.k.a. PR1.1). The update is 6.8MB and can be downloaded as an OTA update now.

Some user in Italy has apparently gotten their hands on a N8 with PR1.1 on board. The firmware is dated January 7th, which means that it could currently be subject to heavy testing. Let’s hope this will be released soon enough!

Nokia N8

Nokia Sweden commented on their Facebook page that the bigger N8 update will arrive later this spring. MyNokiaBlog was the first to spot this. According to their Google Translator skills Nokia posted this comment:

Hi Matt! As Marcus says, a new software (PR 1.1) in February. A major update will be done later in the spring, but the time is still undetermined.

So, we will see the smaller PR1.1 update in February, but the bigger (possibly PR2.0) update is now delayed till ‘late spring’. Late spring in Sweden could actually mean anything between February and May, but I don’t think we will see it in February. So we will most probably see PR2.0 in March the earliest. PR2.0 is said to contain the new and improved browser.

I just eyed through the Nokia Sweden’s Facebook page, but couldn’t find any more info. The original message also appears to have been removed from there.

Nokia N8 PR1.1

The Nokia N8 is about to get updated to PR1.1, aka version 013.015. This is not the major update that will bring the new browser and the promised 50+ features, but it still is an update that will bring performance and stability improvements. A Navifirm release usually means that we will see the official release in the near future.

PR1.1 is dated January 7th, 2011, so today it is exactly one week old. We could see the N8 officially updated during the following few days. Just keep on waiting! :)

Edit: Apparently it has now been removed from Navifirm. Could mean that is is back in testing, or then that it will be released soon. More info later :)
