Nokia N900 SW 20.2010.36-2

The Nokia N900 just received a new software version, which is now 20.2010.36-2. This is not the rumored PR1.3 release that will eventually enable the N900 to dual-boot into MeeGo, but just a minor software bump that will enable Ovi Suite and speed up the device in general. Correction, this is PR1.3 and actually has dual-booting support built in. There was never talk that the firmware itself would contain the needed MeeGo files, but to just bring the option of this. Sorry about that :)

The official changelog is as follows:

  • Nokia Ovi Suite support added
  • Performance improvements

The update can be obtained as an OTA update, and should be available in your country anytime soon.

This software release brings Nokia Ovi Suite support to your device. With Nokia Ovi Suite, you can easily back up and synchronise files and messages between your device and PC. There are also many performance improvements that make your device run more smoothly. To get this software through your device, select Applications > Software Update, and choose the software you want to update. Alternatively, this software release is available through the Nokia Software Updater.

Think the guy in the image look a little creepy? Well, that’s not why I posted this, but because of what he wrote on the Ovi Blog. The guy in the picture is Steven Stewart, and he is Senior Manager for Ovi Music.

I think people are going to be surprised with how truly amazing the new devices are. It’s so satisfying to see Nokia creating a new generation of “do-it-all” phones that you will lust after. Fast, sleek, sexy, and powerful. Pictures don’t do them justice. Once I held them in my hand and had the full experience, I didn’t want to let go. My biggest problem now is deciding which of the many phones to use as my main device! Right now, the Nokia N8 has a hold on my heart, but others are fighting to show me why they should be the one in my pocket.

I can’t wait for Nokia World to see if this true! The N8 looks marvellous, but will there be something even better? We’ll see next week when Nokia World starts.
