Here’s a really interesting interview with Google’s Eric Schmidt from yesterdays Web 2.0 Summit 2010. He talks about the “un-anounced device” running on Gingerbread. Schmidt says that this is not the Nexus Two, but hints that it could in fact be called the Nexus S. He also gives us a demo of the NFC-chip in function on the device, and Android 2.3 Gingerbread. On the video you can also hear Schmidt saying that the OS should be released in the next few weeks. The Nexus S should be manufactured by Samsung, hence the S in the name.

Nexus Two

A last minute hardware issue has delayed the rumored *insert whatever rumored Nexus One successor name here*. The phone is rumored to be a successor to the Nexus One, which run on stock Android and was sold directly by Google. The Nexus Two/Nexus S/etc. is rumored to be built by Samsung, and to run on a stock version of Android 2.3, aka Gingerbread.

The phone was previously rumored to be released on either November 8th or 11th, but now it seems to miss that time frame. Will Google release Gingerbread without hardware support, or will they also postpone the launch of Gingerbread due to this? More info later!

Google Nexus Two

Rumores of the Nexus Two went crazy last night when an article of Carphone Warehose UK was released. They say in the interview that they will get the second Google-branded phone in time for Christmas, and that it will run Gingerbread.

This would also mean a completely different strategy from Google’s point of view. They wouldn’t sell the phone themselves, but use a retailer instead.

THE SECOND Google-branded mobile phone will hit the UK in time for Christmas through an exclusive deal with Carphone Warehouse, City A.M. has learned.

Its predecessor, the Nexus One, is the flagship device for the search giant, which is desperately trying to wrest market share from Apple’s iPhone.

The deal with Carphone represents a major rethink of Google’s sales strategy, with the Nexus One released exclusively in the UK through Vodafone.

An industry source said: “It looks like Google is experimenting with the future of its mobile model in the UK. It tried releasing through a single carrier, now it is trying a single retailer.

“It could be a solution to the problems it experienced when it tried to sell the Nexus One exclusively through its website. People like to be able to go to a store – this solves that.”

Neither Carphone Warehouse or Google has commented on this rumor.

According to a post on Engadget, Motorola Shadow will be renamed into Google Nexus Two. The phone is basically a Motorola Milestone/Droid, but with a white QWERTY-keyboard and with a wrist strap. One more picture after the break.

Here is an interesting take from “Life from All Things D at CES 2010″ transcoded by Engadget. Andy Rubin, VP of Engineering at Google, said that there will be an enterprise version of the Google Nexus One phone. The phone will have a physical keyboard, and a better/bigger battery.
