Nokia continues to push out new firmwares to their older devices. Today the Nokia N97 mini started receiving its awaited update that brings the new Symbian Anna browser and a new version of Ovi Maps.
Changelog for version 30.0.004 for the Nokia N97 mini:
New, faster version of the web browser, including web search integrated into the web address field, and support for multiple windows - v7.3
Microsoft today released a final version of Silverlight for Symbian (S60 5th edition) into the Ovi Store.
Silverlight, a cross-browser, cross-platform implementation of the .NET Framework for building media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web on desktop computers, is also available for Nokia S60 5th Edition devices such as Nokia 5800 XpressMusic and N97. Silverlight applications now can be viewed inside mobile browser. To learn please visit http://www.silverlight.net/getstarted/devices/symbian/
Together with the Nokia N97, also the N97 mini received a firmware update today. This will bring the version number up to 12.0.110, and I’d guess that it is also a bugfix release. Couldn’t find a changelog for this yet, but I’d guess it is at least near the same with the Nokia N97′s that I posted here.
Immediately when I hit the publish button on the previous post, I notice that also the N97 mini received a firmware update today. The version number however differs on these two releases, with the N97 mini receiving version 20.0.016. It should be available soon via the NSU or as an OTA update. No official changelog yet.
Nokia just released a new beta of the Nokia Messaging for IM.
Nokia Messaging for IM offers a desktop-like IM experience on your Nokia device. You can stay in contact with your friends across multiple communities at the same time, easily switch between them and customize your status by community. Highlights include:
Chat with your friends on the Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo!® Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi communities.
(new!) Easily change your custom status, avatar (picture) and switch between conversations and communities with just a few taps on touch-based devices.
(new!) Preview new messages in the Chat home screen widget. When signed in to multiple communities, the widget will cycle between them. You can also change your presence within the widget itself.
See your friends’ avatars and set your own using the camera or an image from your gallery (for Windows Live Messenger (new!), Gtalk (new!) and Ovi communities).
The new touch-based beta client is available for the Nokia N97 mini and Nokia 97. It has not completed a full testing cycle on the Nokia 5800 and Nokia X6 but has passed the early tests – so give it a try.
