Here’s a pretty amazing video from the Nokia Producers contest. The top 8 producers got to take a friend with them on a Zero-G flight! This whole show was filmed on a bunch of N8s. Amazing stuff!

Nokia N8Nokia today semi-announced the Nokia N8-00 32GB version. The announcement came as an email to some customers, so it wasn’t anything too glamorous.

This is exactly the same as the 16GB version that is currently available, but with obviously 32GB inside. The 32GB is still expandable by a microSD card, so you’ll be able to get 64GB of worth of memory inside this little device!

Nokia today releases software update PR1.1 for the new Symbian devices – the Nokia N8, C7 and C6-01. While the new Symbian software offered great performance and features from launch, the updates will make it even smoother to use.

Most of the updated features are not directly visible to end users, but together, they will enhance the user experience of each Symbian device. Both the quality and the stability of the devices will be further enhanced. In addition to numerous tweaks and fixes, there’s also some new content. More details below.

  1. Meeting requests can be accepted directly from email invitations;
  2. Maps integration in email, which means people can view the meeting location on the map when the address is mentioned in the location field in the invite.
  3. For Nokia N8 users:
    a. New Quick Office 6.4 editor version, which offers editing possibilities and allows zooming in & out in Word documents.
    b. Three high quality games will also be preloaded on new devices – Need for Speed Shift, Real Golf and Galaxy on Fire. (In some countries, Need for Speed is replaced with Asphalt 5). For current N8 users, these are available for free from Ovi Suite & Ovi Store.

You’ll be able get the update through Software Update on your device or using Ovi Suite. We’re warned that the update may be quite a large download, especially for Nokia N8 users. So make sure you’re on a free WiFi service when you choose to update or use Ovi Suite to install it.

The standard, non-customised version of the software is available from today. Country (SIM-free) and operator-specific variants will follow soon.

With this mobile application for phones with HDMI output (like the Nokia N8 and Nokia E7), you can turn your phone into a portable media center that you can easily connect to any TV set that supports HDMI. Nokia Big Screen brings you the following features:

  • Listen to music from your phone on your home audio system
  • View song lyrics in karaoke style and watch videos with subtitles
  • Play music in the background while you browse your photos

Nokia N8 - Aluminum Black Orange Blue Green

Tapani Kaskinen, Senior Comms Manager at Nokia, today confirmed that the Nokia N8 will be available on September 28th. Those of you who have ordered the Nokia N8 directly from Nokia, should receive it on Tuesday, September 28th, 2010.

The Nokia N8 is the first phone to run on Symbian^3. Personally I have to say that I’m pretty impressed about this device, and I think that it will sell quite good. For instance here in Finland, you’ll have to pay 499€ to get this thing, and this is cheaper than what you’d have to pay for a competing device with roughly the same specs.

Earlier today we posted a mini review of the Nokia N8 phone. Now we have something more interesting, which is the full specification sheet of the same phone:

  • 12 megapixel camera with f/2.8, 28mm wide angle Carl Zeiss optics, and Xenon flash; dedicated camera key
  • 720p video recording at 30 frames per second
  • Face recognition
  • HDMI output with battery rated at 6.7 hours
  • Dolby Digital Plus support, maximum 5.1 channel speaker output

  • Volume: 86 cc
  • Weight: 135 grams

The first official mentioning of Nokia N8-00 has appeared in a XML-file on Nokia’s site. What the file also confirms, is that it will in fact be Symbian^3 based. There is no word about the rumored 12 megapixel camera. We should know more in a few weeks, when Nokia is rumored to announce this phone.
