  • Only 5 applications are on half of all iPhones/iPod Touch devices (FaceBook, AIM, Google?)
  • The 1000th ranked app, which is the top 1%, is installed on “only” 1.76% of iPhones/ iPod touches.  If there are 50 million devices out there, that is almost a million installations so that is still significant.
  • After 20,000, the apps have almost no installations. Meaning 80% of apps never get any sort of popularity.

This actually happened yesterday, but it somehow slipped through my laptop. To the point, Apple yesterday announced that the App Store had hit the 100,000 applications milestone. This was unofficially done already a week ago, but yesterday Apple made it official. They also said that there have been over 2 billion app downloads since the launch! More after the break.

Good new for those who have invested in Samsung!

Samsung Electronics released their Q3 result, and it’s astonishing. They sold 60.2 million phones, with an average price of 81€. That’s 15% higher when compared to Q2, and a 16% higher than what it was last year.

This is also the first time that Samsung’s market share in phones climb over 20%. This makes Samsung worlds 2nd biggest player in mobile phones.

According to App Shopper, there has now been over 100,000 approved applications in the Apple App Store. This isn’t an official number, so we’ll have to wait for the official announcement from Apple’s part.

There isn’t 100,000 in the App Store at the moment, since the number includes also applications that have been later removed from there by either Apple or the developer.

AdMob today released a report over ad requests on their ad network. 6 months ago Symbian OS came in at first with a share of 43%, and the iPhone OS came in 2nd with a share of 33%. Today, the first place is occupied by iPhone OS with a share of 40%, when Symbian’s share is 34%.

Another noteworthy contestant is Android. 6 months ago it was trailing RIM OS with 8%, and today that gap is only 1%. My guess is that next time this report gets released, Android OS will be third most popular smartphone OS.

Check out the comparison table after the break.

Apple today released info about the success of their App Store. So far 125,000 developers have developed 85,000 applications, that have generated over 2 billion downloads since the launch of the Apple App Store a little over a year ago.

What will the figures be when the iPhone gets released in China in a few days.. Guess there will be a huge amount of new developers, applications and downloads. We’ll see how that turns out in just a few days!

The worlds largest carrier, China Mobile, has hit 500 million customers. That number is insane when you think it in a different way. It’s for instance nearly 70% of the population of Europe, or 100 times the population of Finland.

According to a Finnish news site, the Nokia Ovi store hasn’t been a success so far. There has been only 10 million downloads from the Ovi store since it’s launch on May 26th, 2009.

Kai Öistämö told at the Nokia World ’09 event that every user had downloaded an average of 6 applications from the store. This would mean, that the Ovi store has approximately 1.67 million users.

Compare these numbers to the mother of all application stores, the Apple App Store. During its first two months last year, the App Store served over 100 million downloads. Now the App Store has hit the 1.5 billion milestone, and 2 billion downloads shouldn’t be that far away.
