Android Market

It has previously been rumored that the Android Market would have passed 90,000 apps, but that appears to have been invalid. The AndroidDev twitter account has confirmed that the Android Market actually has hit the 100,000 apps milestone.

Here is what AndroidDev wrote on their official twitter account:

One hundred thousand apps in Android Market.

Graz to Android, and the Android Market’s success!

App Store Over 300k

According to Mobclix, the Apple App Store passed the 300,000 app mark last night. This number has yet to be confirmed by Apple, but at least gives you a heads-up on that it could be announced by Apple soon enough.

Roughly 50,000 “apps” are books, and another 50,000 are games. Nearly 207,000 apps are paid, and nearly 95,000 are free.

Congrats on those numbers Apple!

Apple today announced its financial results for the second calendar quarter, and third fiscal quarter of 2010. Apple’s revenue is $15.7 billion, with a net profit of $3.25 billion. A year ago the revenue was $9.73 billion, and net profit $1.83 billion.

Apple shipped 3.47 million Macs, 8.4 million iPhones and 9.41 million iPods. Apple also sold 3.27 million iPads after it’s launch in April 2010.

“It was a phenomenal quarter that exceeded our expectations all around, including the most successful product launch in Apple’s history with iPhone 4,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “iPad is off to a terrific start, more people are buying Macs than ever before, and we have amazing new products still to come this year.”

“We’re really pleased to have generated over $4 billion of cash during the quarter,” said Peter Oppenheimer, Apple’s CFO. “Looking ahead to the fourth fiscal quarter of 2010, we expect revenue of about $18 billion and we expect diluted earnings per share of about $3.44”

The company behind one of the biggest success stories of the Apple App Store, Tap Tap Revenge by Tapulous, was today acquired by Disney.

Tapulous has been acquired by Disney. The iPhone gaming startup with several hits on its hands was founded by Bart Decrem, who will join Disney as a VP. COO Andrew Lacy is also joining Disney as a VP. Disney is very interested in social and mobile gaming, having recently invested in Playdom’s $33 million round.

Congrats to Tapulous, I’d say they made some big money with this transfer to Disney!
