Absinthe A5 jailbreak

The day of an untethered iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak is finally here! Absinthe A5 was today released, and it finally brings an untethered solution for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners wanting to jailbreak their device.

Absinthe A5 can jailbreak an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 (9A334) and 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A 406), and an iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405). The untethered part means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak every time after you’ve rebooted your device, the jailbreak will stay until you update/reinstall iOS.

Please follow this link to download Absinthe A5 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The app is currently Mac-only, but a Windows version should follow soon.

pod2g finally released his long awaited untethered jailbreak, Corona 1.0, for iOS 5.0.1. This new jailbreak will bring an untethered solution for everything pre-A5, meaning that it will not work on iPhone 4S or iPad 2. The reason for why it doesn’t work on these two devices is that Apple did some security tightening on their new A5 SoC. A fully working solution for the A5 has yet to be found.

Those of you wanting to jailbreak anything pre-A5 can download this new jailbreak from either Chronic Dev team or The Dev Team.

iOS 5.0.1 untethered jailbreak

Pod2g of the Chronic Dev-Team just wrote on his blog that an untethered jailbreak for all A4-powered Apple devices is done. He has completed the coding part, and is doing the final testing before a public release. The jailbreak works on iOS 5.0 and iOS 5.0.1. Apple’s A5 devices, the iPhone 4S and iPad 2, are still left without the untethered jailbreak.

Here is what Pod2g wrote on his blog:

iPad 1 5.0.1 untethered code is done, testing tomorrow with a friend’s device. Just to let you know my progress in real time. iPhone 3GS 5.0.1 untethered code is done. Testing tomorrow also! iPod 4G 5.0.1 untethered too ! :o. Apple TV 2 4.43 untethered done also. Will be able to test in some days.

Let’s hope the final release happens soon!

jailbreakme 3 2 million

We reported only a few days ago that JailbreakMe 3.0 had been used to jailbreak over 1 million devices. Today, only three days after the previous milestone, the popular jailbreak has been used over 2 million times! Thank you Comex for making this possible!

JailbreakMe 3.0 was released yesterday, roughly 20 hours ago. This is the one and only true one-click solution for jalibreaking your iOS 4.3.3 device. It is also the first jailbreak that can be used to hack an iPad 2.

JailbreakMe 3.0 has proven to be massively popular. The hack just reached 1 million jailbreaks in just over 20 hours! Amazing work Comex!

Late last week we got the first official jailbreak solution for iOS 5. RedSn0w 0.9.8 was the first to provide this capability, but the software was released only for Mac OS X. Now, this same piece of code has been released for Windows users.
RedSn0w 0.9.8 beta 1 for Windows will jailbreak the following devices:
  • iPod touch 3G
  • iPod touch 4G
  • iPad 1
  • iPhone3GS
  • iPhone4 (GSM)
  • iPhone4 (CDMA)

MuscleNerd just tweeted that the iOS 5 beta that was released yesterday, has now been jailbroken. MuscleNerd confirmed this on his twitter, by showing the image you see embedded above. You’ll see Cydia and iSSH together with the iOS 5 only app Newsstand.

Limera1n + tethered boot seemed to do the trick on a 4th generation iPod touch with iOS 5 beta. Apple can of course still plug this security hole before the final release.

Here is the tweet:

iOS5 jailbroken on ipt4g: http://is.gd/7GxIcK http://is.gd/BwPvfh via limera1n + tethered boot..not too many surprises :)

Apple has finally decided to add Notifications to iOS. This was juts unveiled at the WWDC keynote, where Apple detailed iOS 5. The notification system reminds me much of what we’ve on the jailbreak side with Mobile Notifier. Peter Hajas now works at Apple, and he is the one who is behind the jailbreak application. Apple basically bought the guy behind this software, and implemented the software into iOS

iPad 2 white jailbreak

That sure didn’t take long – the newly released iPad 2 has already been jailbroken. The guy behind the hack is Comex, who also brought us the Spirit and Jailbreakme jailbreaks.

The hack was confirmed by the official iPhone Dev-Team via their Twitter account:

@iphone_dev: Congrats to @comex for jailbreaking yet another brand new device (iPad2) while 2500 miles away from it!

Sony Ericsson Xperia play

Geohot is currently in a legal fight with Sony over hacking the PlayStation 3 console. He still stated that he wants to be the first to hack the Xperia Play when it is launched. Here is what he wrote on his blog:

In fact, I want the opposite reputation set, that the more a company tries to abuse the legal system, the harder we rally back. I will be the first person in line on the launch date of the Xperia Play, and itching to get my hands on the Next GEOHOT Project.

Guess we’ll see the Xperia Play hacked pretty fast. This Geohot guy is pretty amazing at hacking. His previous works include numerous iOS and PS3 hacks.
