Apple Store White iPhone 4

Apple updated their Apple Store application last night, and while there wasn’t any noticeable changes in the software, there was one interesting change in the products that you can reserve – the white iPhone 4 was added.

The White iPhone 4 appeared in the software, and users in the States are now able to make a reservation of a 16GB or 32 GB iPhone 4. I’d say the white iPhone 4 is just waiting to be officially (re-) announced :)

The first images of the Verizon iPhone, or the CDMA iPhone, have appeared. Vietnam is again the source for these, and if you remember six months back in time, Vietnam was the first place to show us leaked images of the real iPhone 4 beta version.

The new iPhone is called N92DVT, where DVT stands for Design Verification Team. This means that the product is in its final testing stages, the last stage known before the final OS gets loaded and the whole device put into mass production. John Gruber for instance has confirmed that the N92 is the model name that will be used for the Verizon iPhone.

Hit View Post to see the rest of the images.

VLC is coming to the iPhone in the very near future! It has actually already been submitted to the App Store, and is only waiting for Apple’s approval.

iPhone 4 Flashlight Drunk

According to a report by SquareTrade, largest independent warranty provider in the world, the iPhone 4 breaks more easily than its predecessor, the iPhone 3GS. The iPhone 4 breaks 82 precent more than the iPhone 3GS.

Highlights of the study include:

  • iPhone 4 owners reported 82 percent more damaged screens in the first four months compared to iPhone 3GS owners
  • More than 25 percent of damage reported was to the glass on the back of the unit
  • The reported accident rate for the iPhone 4 was 68 percent higher than for the iPhone 3GS
  • An estimated 15.5 percent of iPhone 4 owners will have an accident within a year of buying their phone
  • iPhone 4 screen damage is responsible for more than four-fifths of reported accidents during thelast four months, slightly higher than the iPhone 3GS during the same time period.

I broke my iPhone 4 during the first two months. I’ve had the 3G and 3GS both for over a year, and I never broke those.. Be careful with your iPhone 4!

GreenPois0n Jailbreak

Chronic Dev Team just announced that GreenPois0n for iOS 4.1 is now available to download for Windows comptuers. The Mac version is currently unavailable, but should follow later.

Sorry about the Mac button on the website. It is not yet available, but it is being worked on, hang tight. We appreciate your patience.

greenpois0n only works on firmware 4.1, so (only if you have an iPhone 4!) if you are on a lower firmware make sure you use TinyUmbrella to preserve your baseband.

Download: http://www.greenpois0n.com/

Initially, this will be a Windows-only release. This is due to some technical complications that we soon hope to correct. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Thanks to geohot for the bootrom USB exploit. We have opted to use that instead of SHAtter for the sake of exploit presevation.

This release of greenpois0n supports:
- iPhone 4
- iPhone 3G S
- iPod touch (4th Generation)
- iPod touch (3rd Generation)
- iPad

Soon there will be another release, adding things like support for:
- Apple TV (2nd Generation)
- iPod touch (2nd Generation)

Pretty cool thing, the iPhone is launched into space by guys from Brooklyn. The iPhone itself wasn’t used to shoot the video footage, but to track the GPS location of the shuttle.

Limera1n Jailbreak

Geoh0t today released the first official jailbreak for ever iOS 4.1 device available. The best thing about this jailbreak is that Apple can’t fix this without a hardware update. So, if you now own an iPhone 4, it will be jailbreakable for the rest of your life :)

Here is what geoh0t wrote on his site:

limera1n, 6 months in the making
iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G
4.0-4.1 and beyond+++
limera1n is unpatchable
untethered thanks to jailbreakme star comex
released today to get chronicdev to do the right thing
brought to you by geohot
hacktivates
Mac coming soon
follow the instructions in the box, sadly limera1n isn’t one click
that’s the price of unpatchability
as usual, donations appreciated but not required
still in beta, pardon my ragged edges
AppleTV is technically supported, but theres no apps yet
zero pictures of my face

The limera1n jailbreak is currently only available on Windows, but a Mac version should be coming in the near future (you can use a virtualization software on you Mac until a Mac version is available).

Here is what you need to do, to jailbreak your iPhone 4 on iOS 4.1:

  1. Download Limera1n for Windows, follow this link.
  2. Connect your device via USB and hit the ‘make it ra1n’ button.
  3. Wait for the device to enter recovery mode.
  4. Hold Home + Power buttons until you see the “release power button” message in Limera1n.
  5. Release the Power button when you see the text in Limera1n.
  6. Wait while the device boots into DFU mode.
  7. Limera1n does now the dirtywork, and injects itself in the bootrom of your phone.
  8. The Jailbreak is done when your device is finished with booting
  9. Now you can use the Limera1n.app on your iPhone to install Cydia (jailbreak app store).

Verizon iPhone 4

Last week the rumored Verizon iPhone was again brought to life by Wall Street Journal. Now, the New York Times confirmed this rumor with the following comment:

After more than three years of using only AT&T cellphone networks, Apple is now making a version of the iPhone 4 for Verizon’s network, according to a person who is in direct contact with Apple. Apple and Verizon will begin selling the phone early next year, said the person, who agreed to speak on condition of anonymity because the plans were supposed to be confidential and he did not want to alienate his contacts at Apple.

Verizon CEO, Ivan Seidenberg, will hold a keynote at CES on January 6th, 2011. Maybe this is the date the CDMA iPhone will be announced?
