htc_hero_slide_01_slideChief of HTC Sweden said in an interview made by IGN.se, that the successor to the HTC Hero will be announced on February 15th, and should be available in stores shortly after that. It is weird how HTC has been able to keep the specs of this thing a secret, but I guess we’ll hear a lot more of this in the coming few months.

Head over to the XDA-developers forum to download the hacked HTC Hero ROM with Android 2.1. The installation should be pretty simple, but be sure to do a backup of your phone before proceeding.

A leaked image shows Android 2.1 running on a HTC Hero. It’s possible that HTC will skip the 2.0 update, and jump straight to 2.1. This is also good news for other models running on a Qualcomm 528MHz processor, since the firmware can most probably be hacked to run on those phones.

Good new tho the HTC Hero users, HTC is working on bringing Android 2.0 to your phone! Don’t know if any other existing HTC phones will also be updated in the process, but at least the Hero will be.

Here is the quote from Engadget:

Yes, we are working on an Eclair update for the HTC Hero. Because Eclair is a significantly enhanced release, it will require some time to update Sense for this new version of the Android OS. Please be patient while we work to provide you with a tightly integrated experience like the one you are already enjoying on your Hero.

htc_hero_slide_01_slideThere is a lot of discussion going on about HTC Hero, and it’s problems with SMS. The problem seems to be in the ability to receive messages. People seem to have random problem with SMS messages never getting though.

For instance on the Sprint Forum you can find many topics that relate to this issue. No word yet on a possible fix. The problem isn’t carrier bound, since it’s appearing in both the States and in the UK.

Check out the Sprint Forum here.

htc-hero-fw-nordicThe new firmware is now official. This brings the version number up to 2.73.405.5, and is available to at least european customers. What is special about this update is that it should speed up things quite a bit.

The phone in the image is most probably a HTC Hero with a smooth redesign. The biggest thing that is missing is the chin at one end of the phone.

HTC is known to take one phone and redesign it for different carriers. So this one could be a HTC Hero but designed for instance for Verizon or Sprint.
