MuscleNerd told on his Twitter page that he has released the first public version of redsn0w for the iPhone OS 4.0 beta 1. This isn’t currently available for the the average user, but for developers of current jailbreak applications.

This is a beta release of redsn0w targeted at developers of jailbroken apps. It uses the same pwnage2 DFU-mode exploit that we’ve been using since the 2.x days. Nothing new is revealed to Apple, and it’s not applicable to the iPad. Don’t go near it if you use yellowsn0w, ultrasn0w, or blacksn0w.

Please not that this beta is not meant for the average end-user. There are many things “broken” with jailbroken apps in the 4.0beta1 environment right now (that’s the real reason we showed “Veency” in the 4.0 jailbreak demo video last week, instead of say MobileTerminal.app, which is broken!). This beta redsn0w allows the developers behind those jailbroken apps (like MobileTerminal.app!) to fix their software before the general public gets iphoneOS 4.0.

Because it’s meant for JB app developers, this beta redsn0w does not perform hactivation. You’ll need a properly-registered developer UDID with Apple to get past the activation screen. For similar reasons, there is no Windows version of this beta redsn0w (since apps are developed on MacOSX). Please don’t pirate Apple software.

Anyone other than developers of jailbroken apps porting their software to 4.0beta1 should still be using our previously-released redsn0ws for 3.0 through 3.1.3

This BETA release supports:

  • iPhone 3G only (for now)
  • Mac OSX only (for now)
  • the 4.0beta1 FW only (for now)

YOU SHOULD STAY CLEAR OF THIS BETA SOFTWARE IF YOU RELY ON A CARRIER UNLOCK. That’s because the beta redsn0w works only if your device has already been upgraded to the stock 4.0beta1 IPSW from Apple, which contains a baseband update. If you installed that IPSW, you’ve already lost the carrier unlock until the next planned release of ultrasn0w and blacksn0w.

Now when we have a fully working and official Firefox for the Nokia N900, it’s time for Google Chrome to be ported to the N900. Actually, a user called Jacekowski has ported a 32-bit Debian version of the Google Chrome to the Nokia N900.

Actually, this port is running pretty well, with even support for Flash and a score of 100/100 on the Acid3 test. Check out the installing instructions after the break.

The famous iPhone-hacker MuscleNerd just posted on his twitter account that he had successfully jailbroken the iPhone OS 4.0. To prove this, he is running Veency (VNC application for jailbroken iPhones) on his iPhone OS 4.0.

Check out the video after the break!

In the video you can see a Samsung Omnia HD i8910 running 62 applications simultaneously. This is done with a hacked firmware, which has 194MB free RAM at boot-up.

The hacked Symbian S60 firmware is called: HX-V4-Speed-SE.

Check out the video after the break.

Musclenerd demonstrates on the video how he jailbreaks the Apple iPad! It took under 24 hours for the iPad to get jailbroken.

Geohot is also prepearing a jailbreak for the iPad, but he will wait for Apple to release the first firmware update for the iPad before he releases his solution.

A member of the Maemo community has successfully overclocked a Nokia N900 to run at 1GHz. Although this was achieved, a member had this to say:

“To people asking for 1000mhz kernel. Its not worth it, I’ve noticed that @ 900mhz the phone is absolutely smoothest. 1000mhz introduced minor lag, even the psx4all works slightly faster.”

You can currently download a kernel that will overclock your phone to 825MHz. More speed will be added later, when no-one reports a dead phone in a week(or that’s what Lehto has to say about the release schedule).

Download the modified kernel here.

100% FAKE!, but entertaining :)

We have previously shown that the Nokia N900 can boot many operating systems due to its Maemo/Linux OS and the help of a program called DosBox. For instance Android and OS X has been proven to run on the N900, and now you can add Windows 95 to that list.

The boot-up process is actually quite fast on this one, and nothing compared to the OS X boot-up process.

Dev-Team today released a new and updated version of PwnageTool. The new version is PwnageTool 3.1.5, and is able to crack the iPhone OS version 3.1.3. Here’s a take from the Dev-Team Blog:

On Tuesday, Apple released firmware 3.1.3 for the iPhone and iPod touches.  Unless you’ve personally observed a problem with the reporting of your battery percentage, there’s no reason to update to 3.1.3.  We know some of you will want to anyway.  Superbowl Sunday’s PwnageTool 3.1.5 for Mac OS X will let you do so safely, preserving your jailbreak and ultrasn0w unlock.  (If you use the blacksn0w unlock (at baseband 05.11.07), you need to stay at 3.1.2.)

iPhone 3G and 3GS unlockers should always be very wary to update their firmware.  This is no exception.  If you make a mistake along the way you may find yourself updating to official 3.1.3 in which case you will lose your unlock, possibly forever.

iPhone 3GS users (regardless of unlock) should stay away from this and all 3.1.3 jailbreak tools unless you know you have your “SHSH hashes” backed up via Cydia.  That’s because if you make a mistake you may find yourself stuck at official 3.1.3 with no way to jailbreak or come back down to 3.1.2 to jailbreak.

If you really truly feel that you need to update, this version creates a custom 3.1.3 IPSW for you to restore to on your iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS with early bootrom, iPod touch 1G, and iPod touch 2G with early bootrom.  If you don’t know if you have an early bootrom or not, please avoid updating until you learn more.
