Mobile World Conference is just a few weeks away. This is the biggest mobile event during the year, and it is certain that we will see many new devices announced during it. Samsung has previously been rumored to come out with a successor to the Galaxy S, and possibly also the Galaxy Tab.

This has now been confirmed by the slide above, which quite clearly states that we will have Galaxy S 2 and Galaxy Tab 2 announced on February 13th, 2011. Currently the Galaxy S 2 is rumored to have a 4.3-inch screen, a dual-core Orion CPU, 8-megapixel camera and 1GB of RAM. Just wait a few weeks and we’ll know for sure.

Samsung has again leaked something of their own. This time it is Samsung Indonesia who added the Samsung Ace (S5830) to their site with images and specs. This could as well be called the Galaxy S mini. I think it looks exactly like the Galaxy S, but smaller.

Here’s the specs for the Samsung Galaxy Ace S5830:

  • Android 2.2
  • 3G-bands: 900/2100 MHz
  • GSM-bands: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz

Samsung Galaxy S2 teaser

Samsung opened yesterday a teaser website for the successor of the Galaxy S. The phone is wildly expected to be called the Samsung Galaxy S2, but nothing has been confirmed on this front.

Now a Korean website has managed to get more info out of this device, and they say that it goes under the codename Seine. They also posted the following updated specs for the Samsung Galaxy S2.

  • Android 2.3 Gingerbread
  • 4.3 inch Super AMOLED Plus display with 800 x 480 pixels
  • Near-Field-Communication chip
  • 8MP photo camera

I have to say that the Galaxy S2 sounds marvelous! We’ll see more on February 1st, when the first teaser bit will be given. The final announcement is set to happen on February 13th, a day before Mobile World Congress kicks-off.

Samsung S5830 Galaxy Cooper

The Samsung S5830 Galaxy Cooper has now leaked together with what appears to be final specs and a PR image. This was previously called the Galaxy Ace, but apparently it is headed to India under the name Galaxy Cooper. Samsung Galaxy 551

The Samsung Galaxy 551 arrived here in Finland a few weeks ago. Currently the phone is priced at 279€ with 23% VAT included. An Android slider at this price point could be considered a bargain. However, Samsung has some major issues with the software on this device.

At the store where I work, we’ve got numerous complaints about the Samsung Galaxy 551. Most of the devices we’ve sold got returned because the phone just jammed. The phone just froze and never recovered from it. Some said that it jammed when the alarm was active and the phone was plugged to the wall, or that the phone just froze after a few minutes of usage.

Nationwide the return rate for this phone is as high as 33%, that means every third device has been returned! To add to this, our store doesn’t accept mobile phones to be returned if the customer is just unhappy with it. A mobile device has to be broken for it to be returned, so this means that roughly one third of the Samsung Galaxy 551 are broken!

A problem this big should never escape the factory! I really do hope that they don’t ship another Galaxy 551 before this problem is fixed!

Samsung Galaxy S2

According to ETNews from South Korea, Samsung will announce the Galaxy S2 at Mobile World Congress next month. They continue by telling that it will also have a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED Plus display, Android 2.3 Gingerbread, a dual-core CPU and a Near Field Communication chip. Let’s hope this is true, and that we will see it as early as MWC!

Here’s a new gallery of the recently released Samsung Galaxy 551 with a full QWERTY-keyboard. It’s a decent touch-slider for a price of only 279€ here in Finland (23% VAT included).

I promised earlier today that I’ll post you proof that the Samsung Galaxy Tab is struggling to render websites. As you can see from the videos, esphoneblog.com and iltalehti.fi are lagging quite heavily when browsing them on the Galaxy Tab. Let’s hope Samsung fixes this in a future firmware update!

Sorry about the shaky quality. If you aim for quality, the iPhone 4 and a hangover are not a good combination ;)

Samsung Galaxy Tab

The Samsung Galaxy  Tab (P1000) is now available in Finland. You can get this thing for 899€, which is unsubsidized and includes a 23% VAT.

I have to say that I’m a little bit disappointed in the Galaxy Tab. In my opinion, it is too expensive. The size is ok, but I think it could be a little bit bigger. But what disturbed me the most, is the performance of the Galaxy Tab. It lagged constantly. It didn’t manage to switch between home screen without lagging, and the same lagging continues on media rich internet sites. I’ll later post a video of this lagging, so stay tuned!

Samsung Galaxy S2

Rumored specs of the Samsung Galaxy S2 have been floating around the planet on different blogs and sites. The Samsung Galaxy S2 is said to have the following specs:

  • 4.3-inch SAMOLED2 display at 1280×720 and 340 dpi
  • 2 GHz CPU
  • 1 GB RAM, 4 GB ROM, 32 GB storage with microSD slot for cards up to 32 GB
  • 8 MP camera with full HD video recording
  • Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, A-GPS
  • Accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and all the other Android standards
  • Running Android 3.0

I say yeah sure, not going to happen :) First of all, take a look at the resolution, I don’t think that will make it to handsets anytime soon. 2GHz CPU and 1GB RAM would need a massive battery, which at least the phone in the image above doesn’t have. All of the other features could happen, but I still think this is just some geeks dream, and not actually a WIP.

I think manufacturers should halt for a bit on adding more and more processing power, and focus on making current generation CPU’s more power efficient. It would be much better to have a phone that can sustain over one day worth of heavy usage. I don’t need my phone to be able to make a world record in SETI calculations. But hey, that’s just my two cents.
