Mozilla Firefox Android

Firefox 4 (previously called Fennec) beta 1 for both Android and Maemo was released today.

More personalized than ever before, Firefox 4 beta 1 is packed with your favorite features and great improvements. Other highlights include:

  • Pinch-to-zoom (Android), double-tap, or use the volume rocker (Nokia N900) to zoom in and out
  • Tabbed browsing in thumbnail view lets you easily see and open the site you want
  • Location-Aware Browsing gives you content and info relevant to your location
  • Find in Page in the Site Menu lets you quickly find text on the webpage
  • Share Page in the Site Menu lets you send content to email, Facebook, Twitter and Google Reader
  • Forget Password in the Site Menu tells a website you no longer trust to forget your private data
  • Add Search Engine in the Site Menu lets you quickly add a new search engine to your Awesome Screen
  • Context Menu lets you Open in New Tab and Share by long tapping and holding a link
  • Smart Tapping lets you tap on links, widgets and other Web content with accuracy
  • Password Manager lets you choose to remember site password to avoid typing

Firefox 1.1 RC 1

Firefox for Maemo got yesterday updated to version 1.1 RC 1. As the name suggests, this is the first Release Candidate for the final 1.1 release.

Here is a changelog of the biggest features that have changed from release 1.0 to 1.1:

  • Form assistant improvements, including autocomplete
  • Start Page redesign
  • Auto update add-ons
  • New smart-tapping system for better tapping links, fields and buttons
  • Portrait support on N900
  • Context Menu with Open Link in New Tab and Save Image
  • Web content theme update
  • Improved Site Menu
  • Use volume keys to zoom on N900
  • Save page to PDF
  • Built in Crash Reporter

Important note for those of you who installed the 1.0 version via Ovi Store:

If you installed Firefox 1.0.x from the Ovi Store, you will not be able to upgrade to Firefox 1.1 RC 1 (either from the N900 Application Manager or by downloading the software from Mozilla). We are working to solve this for future releases so that anyone can participate in our Beta programs. Don’t worry, though, if you got Firefox 1.0.x from either the Ovi store or directly from Mozilla, you will be updated to Firefox 1.1 (final) when it is released.


The Nokia N900 has currently the best mobile browser available, and now it received an update for it. Firefox 1.1 beta is now available for Maemo.

Firefox 1.1 beta is built on the same browser engine as Firefox 3.6 for desktop computers with extensive under the hood work to optimize for mobile. For the 1.1 release, we’ve listened to your feedback to help improve the browsing experience. As a result, polishing the user interface and improving UI responsiveness and performance is at the heart of this beta release. Fennec for Android 2.0 is now available for download. This is the first public test release of Firefox/Fennec for Android 2.0, so it is considered to be in pre-alpha development stage.

Firefox for Nokia’s N900 is now available in the Ovi Store.

GLOBAL – N900 users rejoice, Firefox is ready to download directly from the Ovi Store. Officially released at the start of the month on the Mozilla website, the app has been working its way through the Ovi Store approval process and is now ready for N900 users to download.

This is a big leap for Firefox, as this sparks the first release of the full Firefox experience on a mobile device. There’s a ton of great functionality to get stuck into, and some new mobile-specific functions as well.

One of the best parts of Firefox mobile is the ability to sync with your desktop or laptop browser. Using the Weave Sync plugin, you can keep create a Weave account and keep all your browers in Sync. As Jay shows off in the video below, you’ll be able to pull up pages from your history on a mobile device, which you previously browsed on your desktop.

Mozilla Labs today announced the release of Weave Sync 1.0 Firefox add-on. The plugin lets you sync your mobile and desktop firefox.

Using this free browser add-on from Mozilla Labs, you can securely access all of your personal data across all of your supported devices, making your Web experience instantly more personal and useful.

Final version of Firefox was today released for the Nokia N900. The final version comes only 3 days after they released the Release Candidate 3 of the browser, so it is basically the same version. To download this version, go to http://firefox.com/m with your N900′s default browser.

A new Release Candidate was today released of the Firefox browser for Nokia N900/N810.

You can download Firefox RC3 for Maemo by opening http://firefox.com/m with your browser on the N900.


Mozilla is finishing the development on their Firefox for Mobile. Nokia’s N900 will be the first device to get Firefox for Mobile, and after that to Windows Mobile and Android platforms. The Windows Mobile version will be released 3-4 months later than the Maemo version. The maemo version of Firefox Mobile Release Candidate 1 can be downloaded by visiting the Firefox.com/m page with your Nokia N900.
