Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia was today announced for the Nokia E52 and E72. The application works with Microsoft’s Office Communications Server 2007, and with it you’ll get instant messaging, email and voice call.

Here is what Microsoft and Nokia has to say about it:

“Our alliance with Nokia aims to bring the Microsoft Office productivity experience to the millions of people using Nokia smartphones around the world,” said Kirt Debique, general manager, Microsoft Office Communications Platform & Solutions Group, Microsoft. “With the arrival of Communicator Mobile for Nokia today, we have a great start to fulfilling our joint vision.”

“This application really provides a much more efficient way to work with others, as you can see if someone is busy or available and the best way to start a conversation with them,” said Ukko Lappalainen, vice president at Nokia. “It also meets all of the requirements for the enterprise: cost-effective to implement, secure, familiar and reliable.”

Nokia today released a new firmware for the E55. This brings the E55 up to the same software version as the E52, which was released in the beginning of February. The update should be available as an Over-The-Air update now. At least the following applications got updated:

  • Web 7.1.5
  • E-Mail 2.1.0
  • Maps 3.03 (0.1.22.103)

Always remember to make a backup of your phone before proceeding with the update.

Dailymobile.se today leaked a nice set of info about a previously unknown phone, the Nokia C5. The phone looks to be a mid-range phone, somewhere between the 6730 and E52. We’ll most probably see this phone at Mobile World Congress this month. Here is what we know about the phone:

  • Symbian S60v3 FP2 OS
  • 3.2MP camera
  • HSDPA / HSUPA
  • 2.2″ QVGA screen
  • 50MB internal memory
  • MicroSD Slot
  • A-GPS
  • 3.5mm audio jack
  • FM Radio

Another interesting fact is that this phone looks almost the same as the previously leaked ‘Mystic‘, but with the lack of a full QWERTY keyboard.

Check out the other images after the break.

Nokia just updated the E52′s firmware to version 31.012. The update is mainly just a bugfix release with a few tweaks. For instance the noise cancellation parameters have been tweaked, so the quality on your calls should improve. The update is available via Nokia Software Update service. As always, don’t forget to backup your phone before proceeding.

No official change log is available at the moment. So far the update is not available for the E55, but it should follow shortly.

nokia-e52-grey-sideBoth the Nokia E52 and E55 received an update to the firmware. This brings the firmware numbering up to v22.009.202.01.

The E52 and E55 are basically the same phone, except for the keyboard. That is why they both receive the same update, and run with the same firmware version.

Apart from the keyboard, the two new Nokia business phones are almost identical. The E52 comes with a normal 12 key keyboard, and the E55 comes with a new ½-QWERTY keyboard. The new keyboard consists of 20 keys, and it will make writing on the phone more accurate. To me this seems like a fairly good compromise between size and functionality.
