Verizon Wireless has started to push out a new firmware for Droid Eris owners. This new update is called Maintenance Release 4 (MR4), and started rolling out on July 16th. It will take up to a few weeks before every Droid Eris owner has received the udpate.

Here is what dEris86 wrote on Verizon’s forums:

The update released on July 16th has fixed my “Silent Call” issue thus far. So please be patient as you will get the OTA MR4 soon. It may take a week before the whole customer base has the update but you WILL get it.

I installed the update the day they started rolling out the update (July 16th) and as of today (July 18), I have had no issues with silent calls yet. So I will keep my fingers crossed and hope this will fix it for good.

Cheers,
David

Verizon is currently pushing an OTA update for the DROID Incredible. The update will not bring Android 2.2 on board, but for instance Skype, 720p video recording, mobile hotspot functionality and a new boot-up animation is added by this update, so you could actually call it a big update.

Pocketnow tested out the noise cancellation features on both the Motorola Droid X and the Apple iPhone 4. In the video above you can see the Droid X test, and after the break the iPhone 4 test.

When Google announced Android 2.2 (Froyo) last week, they said that it comes with a new JIT (Just-In-Time) compiler, that will bring you enormous speed increases. In the video you’ll see how Android 2.1 runs compared to the new Android 2.2.

In the video, the Nexus One is in charge of Android 2.2, and Motorola Droid and Sprint Evo 4G again of the Android 2.1 (Eclair) side. Please note that the Nexus One’s Android 2.2 isn’t the final version, but a pre-release version that hasn’t been fully optimized.

The Nexus One has some major problems with its display, and especially with its ability to understand multi-touch. The display doesn’t accurately sense multi-touch gestures across the same axis. In the video above, you can first see a demonstration on a HTC Droid, and after that for comparison the Nexus One.

The video shows exactly what the problem of the Nexus One is. When using two fingers and moving them over the same axis line, the screen doesn’t display the correct position of the red/blue indicator on the screen.

Google has blamed the sensor for this, but now Android and Me has revealed that the sensor is working as it was designed to. It was never designed for multi-touch input like this. The sensor used on the Nexus One is Synaptics ClearPad 2000.

Another comparison video after the break showing the difference between the Nexus One and a HTC Incredible. The HTC Incredible uses a Atmel maxTouch sensor, that was originally designed to handle multi-touch gestures.

Motorola leaked a document where you can see their scheduled updates for Android 2.1. It’s not an exact when and where map, but you get the general idea. For instance the Motorola CLIQ will still receive the 2.1 update during this quarter, and DEXT will see the 2.1 in the third quarter.

Verizon has released two new really cool Motorola DROID TV commercials. They continue to bash the iPhone, and what it can’t do.

In one of these commercials, they listen to an internet radio while reading an e-book. Multi-tasking is one of the features that the iPhone is missing. In the second video they use an app called Google Sky Map, that also isn’t available for the iPhone.
