Samsung Wave 723 Announced – Runs Bada

Samsung Wave 723

Samsung just announced the fourth smartphone, Wave 723 or GT-S7320E, that will run on their own bada operating system (previously Wave, Wave 2 and Wave 2 Pro).

The Wave 723 will come in a metal black casing, and will have the following features:

  • bada OS
  • 3.2″ TFT LCD touch screen
  • 5MP camera with dedicated camera button and a LED flash
  • microSD card slot
  • WiFi 802.11n
  • Bluetooth 3.0
  • Samsung Apps
  • Social Hub

The phone will be available in September for a price of 240€ in Europe, South Asia, Middle East Asia and African countries.

For 29.99€, you will get lifetime navigation in one country, for 39.99€ you’ll get Eastern or Western Europe, and for 49.99€ you’ll get lifetime navigation in Europe.

Of course this isn’t the same as what Nokia is currently offering with its FREE Lifetime maps for some Nokia phones, but it certainly is worth it if you use your phone as a navigator.

Samsung Wave 525 (Wave 2) and Wave 533 (Wave 2 Pro) Announced

Samsung today announced two new phones with their bada OS. These will feature-wise be little-brothers to the current Samsung Wave (S8500), and both phones will lack 3G support.

The Wave 525 (previously Wave 2) and Wave 533 (Wave 2 Pro) will have quad-band GSM support, a 3.2″ WQVGA TFT LCD touch screen, 3MP camera, Bluetooth 2.1, WiFi 802.11n, A-GPS, an accelerometer, ActiveSync support, Samsung Social Hub, TouchWiz 3.0, Dolfin Browser 2.0, Samsung Apps, 3.5mm headphone jack, FM Radio, music player with SoundAlive, 80MB internal memory, microSD card slot with support for a 16GB card and a 1,200 mAh battery.

The Wave 533 will have a sliding QWERTY-keyboard, while the Wave 525 has only a touch screen. Both devices should be available in Russia in Sempteber. International availability is still unkown. The Wave 525 will retail for $300, and the Wave 533 for $331.

1 Million Samsung Waves Sold Worldwide

Samsung Wave - S8500

The first phone to run Samsung’s own bada operating system, the Samsung Wave S8500, has globally sold 1 million units. Justin Hong, project lead and architect of bada, announced this on his twitter feed.

It took under one month for the Samsung Wave to achieve this, pretty impressive if you ask me. Didn’t expect the Wave to sell this good.

Samsung Wave 2 And Wave 2 Pro Announced

Samsung is really putting effort in its bada operating system. They today announced to new bada phones, the Wave 2 (S5250) and Wave 2 Pro (S5330).

Both phones are quad-band GPRS/EDGE phones without 3G. The phone comes with a 3.2″ TFT LCD screen, 3 megapixel camera with video, A-GPS, WiFi 802.11n and Bluetooth 2.1. The phone has 80MB internal memory, that is expandable to 16GB with a microSD card. TouchWiz 3.0 UI on top of bada will ensure you social media integration throughout the OS. The phone will be available in Russia and South East Asia in August.

Samsung Wave Now Available in Scandinavia

The first bada phone, the Samsung Wave S8500, is now available in Finland. The phone comes also with two other firsts; it is the first Bluetooth 3.0 capable device, and the first phone with a Super AMOLED screen.

Samsung Wave Shipping With a Virus Onboard?

It appears that the at least a few new Samsung Wave (S8500) phones are delivered with a virus on board the microSD card. This is at least the case in Germany, where a virus Win32/Heur is being distributed via the file slmvsrv.exe that is on the memory card that comes with the phone.

I’d recommend that you install a good enough antivirus program, and also format the card that is included (or then buy a new bigger one).
