Here’s a nice internet speed comparison video between the iPhone 4 and Motorola ATRIX 4G. Both devices use the same AT&T SIM. Would be interesting to know what happened to the upload speed on the Atrix 4G..

As expected, Apple today announced the next iPhone generation, simply called iPhone 4. They also renamed the OS underneath, to iOS 4. This was maybe the biggest update that the iPhone has seen.

Here’s a short summary on the new features:

  • 24% thinner than the 3GS
  • 3.5″ screen with a 960 x 640 resolution (called Retina Display, highest pixel density on a phone)
  • 328 pixels per inch
  • 800:1 contrast ratio
  • Apple A4 System-on-Chip
  • 3G Talk time 7h, 3G browsing 6h, Wi-Fi browsing 10h, 10h video, 40h music, 300h standby
  • WiFi 802.11n
  • HSDPA 7.2Mbps down and 5.8Mbps up
  • Two microphones for digital noise cancellation
  • New tool: Gyroscope. 6-axis motion sensing!
  • 5MP camera with  new technology, LED-flash, 5x digital zoom
  • 720p video at 30fps with led and tap to focus
  • Front-facing camera
  • FaceTime program for video calls over WiFi (carriers don’t allow it over 3G)

The new iPhone 4 comes in two colors, black and white. It will be available in US, UK, Germany, France and Japan on June 24th, and 18 other countries will follow sometime in July. The 16GB model will sell for $199, and the 32GB model will sell for $299 (both with a 2-year contract).

AT&T previously re-scheduled the upgrade eligibility to anywhere between June and November, but now they have again moved it for a wide group of customers. The good thing is that they have moved it up so that many can now upgrade their current 3GS to the 4G/HD that Apple is set to announce later today. With a renewed 2-year contract you only pay the normal $18 upgrade fee.

This could be an indication that the AT&T exclusivity ends shortly, and AT&T is trying to get as many customers as they can on a 2-year contract.

Apple is set to announce the iPhone 4G (or HD) later today. The keynote that Steve Jobs will hold starts at 18:00 UTC.

A new set of images has again leaked of the iPhone 4G/HD, which should be announced next week when Apple’s WWDC kicks off. These images seem to confirm the fact that we are going to see an all white iPhone 4G on the market, including the white front panel. We have previously seen independent leaks of both the back and white front panel, but never before have they appeared in the “same leak”.

We will most probably get a confirmation on the colors next week, when Apple is set to announce the iPhone 4G/HD or whatever the name will be.

When your phone is sleeping, tap two times on the power button to make the screen bright. If your lockscreen is showing, tap three times to see the same effect(as in make it first sleep, and then the two times to light the screen).

A feature that could one day become handy :)

Yesterday when Skype 2.0 was released for the iPhone we got free Skype-to-Skype calls over 3G until the end of August. Many users complained about this, and now we have free calls till the end of this year!

iPhone 4G/HD parts continue to appear around the world, and this time the chassis is found in Portugal. Check out the video to see a 3:43 min video of the chassis.

WWDC starts in a week now, so soon you’ll see the final product and not just parts of it ;)

With only one week to go until the WWDC ’10 kicks off on June 7th, I decided to put together a list of what Apple is rumored to bring on board the next generation iPhone.

The name for this device will most probably be iPhone 4G, since it is the fourth generation iPhone. The first gen iPhone was called 2G, second gen 3G, third gen 3GS and now the fourth generation most probably 4G. Another suggestion for a name is iPhone HD, because it is rumored to come with a HD screen.

A list of what is rumored or confirmed for the next generation iPhone.

  • A recent rumor would quadruple the current amount of pixels with a resolution of 960 x 640 (iPhone 3GS has 480 x 320). AMOLED is out of the picture with low production amounts and Apple’s need for enormous productions quantities of their components.
  • The phone will have a front-facing camera for video calls. Evidence has also been found in the current iPhone OS 4.0 beta that the 4G will support video-chat features via iChat.
  • The iPhone 4G/HD will most probably have an Apple designed A4 chip to power the device. This way Apple can optimize the chip for their needs, and maximize performance and battery life. Could be the same chip that the iPad uses.
  • The camera is expected to be bumped to at least 5 megapixels, and also come with a flash.
  • Some kind of ceramic back on the phone. This is also rumored to be touch sensitive, much like the surface of the MagicMouse. The back could be used to control the device with even more finger gestures.
  • It will come in two colors, white and black. Also the front panel will be white in the white version of the phone. Previously only the back of the phone has been either black or white, the front panel has been black in both versions.

Steve Jobs told reporters after the iPhone leak that we still haven’t seen a thing, and that we will not be disappointed with what is still to come. We sure will know more next week’s Tuesday when WWDC kicks off, and Job’s is said to announce the iPhone 4G/HD.

This new iPhone leak comes from the Czech Republic, and reveals the resolution of the next-gen iPhone. Guys from superiphone.cz has gotten their hands on the next iPhone, and actually put it under a microscope to count the pixels. They found out that the iPhone 4G/HD has  a IPS panel, and will have a 960×640 resolution. This is the highest resolution on current phones, and four times the pixels of the iPhone 3GS. Current iPhones sport a resolution of 480×320.

It has long been rumored that the iPhone 4G/HD will not come with an AMOLED screen, simply because there isn’t big enough factories to produce the sheer amount of screens Apple needs when they come out with a new product. WWDC starts in little over a week, so stay tuned :)

BGR reports today that the next-gen iPhone will come in June. This info comes straight from a worker at AT&T, so it should be reliable. Here is what BGR had to say:

Title says it all, but you didn’t really need a confirmation, did you? The phone will be available for purchase in June, not July, and from what we’ve heard, it won’t even be late June.

“It won’t even be late June”, could this mean that it will be available during the WWDC announcement? Let’s hope the iPhone 4G/HD will be available worldwide on June 7th!
