Apple today confirmed that FaceTime calls will not use cellular minutes from your operator. This is how it should be, since FaceTime doesn’t work over 3G (for now).

“The voice call ends as soon as the FaceTime call connects,” Apple tells us. “The FaceTime call is over Wi-Fi so does not use carrier minutes.”

This is the case even if you launch a FaceTime chat during a regular voice phone call. The regular voice call will just be disconnected, and FaceTime will take over and continue via WiFi.

The iOS 4.0 will be available to download in just a few hours (10 AM PST) from now. If you can’t wait till that, take a look at the video above. It goes through the major new features in iOS 4.0 (previously iPhone OS 4.0).

Apple hasn’t actually told much about the technical specifications of the iPhone 4. We for instance don’t know the speed of the CPU, and until today we haven’t known the amount of RAM it carries. The 3G has 128MB, the 3GS has 256MB and the iPad has 256MB. Apple told at the WWDC to developers that the iPhone 4 will have 512MB RAM, and the image above is from WWDC to prove this. If you are a registered Apple developer, check out the WWDC video called ‘Session 147, Advanced Performance Optimization on iPhone OS, pt 2′.

The amount of RAM will ensure a snappy multi-tasking experience.
