Your iPhone 3G/3GS running a little slow on iOS 4? You can fix this by installing a simple SBSettings controller, that will disable all backgrounding tasks, and hence make your phone faster. This will of course disable multitasking and fast app switching, but you will have faster phone.

To install this, simply open up Cydia on your jailbroken iPhone and search for Background Remover SBSetting and install it. After this you need to enable the ‘kill switch’ in SBSettings.

Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 Released

The iPhone Dev-Team today released an updated version of their ultrasn0w unlocking software. Ultrasn0w 1.1-1 should fix standby battery problems that some users have had.

You can update to ultrasn0w 1.1-1 via Cydia.

iOS 4.0.1

According to a redmonpie tipster, iOS 4.0.2 will be released in the coming hours. This will fix the PDF security issue in Safari, that made jailbreaking possible on the iPhone 4.

When iOS 4.0.2 is released, stay away from it if you want to jailbreak and unlock your device! It is highly recommended that you save your SHSH Blobs now, so that you can restore to iOS 4.0.1 if you accidentally upgrade to 4.0.2. Instructions on how to save your SHSH blobs can be found here.

Frash was yesterday released as a downloadable .deb package, but it needed a few extra steps to install. Now, it has been added to a repository, for easier installation via Cydia. You simply need to add http://repo.benm.at to your sources list in Cydia, and after that you should be able to search and install Frash 0.02.

Pretty easy way to enable Flash on your iPhone 4, isn’t it?

Twitter for iPhone

Twitter for iPhone 4 got updated to version 3.0.2. Here is the official changelog:

  • Fixes bug with Top Tweets in timeline
  • Fixes display bugs for iPhone 4
  • Localized to new languages (German, French, Spanish)

Pretty cool app made by Planetbeing from the iPhone Dev-Team. It will show you all cell-towers that your jailbroken iPhone can see, and will mark the one your connected to with red. The app is available via Cydia for $4.99.

Signal is a Cydia Store app I wrote for jailbroken iPhone 4, 3G, and 3GS that shows you interesting data about your cell reception as well as plots a map of your nearby cell towers. Compare coverage between different carriers, test antenna vulnerabilities on your phone, or determine your nearest cell tower. Radio engineers will also find being able to see the downlink and uplink frequencies and scrambling codes of neighboring cells useful for field testing.

Took a few hi-res images of the display on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS. On left we have the iPhone 4, and on right the 3GS.

The images were taken with a Canon EOS 40D with a 200mm lens (the camera has a 1.6x crop so the 35mm equivalent is 320mm).
