Sony with Android 4.0 ICS

Sony wrote a blog post today to tell us about their process of bringing Ice Cream Sandwich to their Xperia line released in 2011. We’ve earlier been told by Sony that the ICS updates will begin in March, but today they announced that a little bit more needs to be done before the update goes live.

The first Sony Xperia models to get updated to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich will be Xperia arc S, Xperia neo V, Xperia neo V and Xperia ray. Updates to the aforementioned will start to go out from mid-April, and continue over the next 4-6 weeks.

The second batch of phones will include the Xperia arc, Xperia PLAY, Xperia neo, Xperia mini, Xperia mini pro, Xperia pro, Xperia active and Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman. These phones will receive the ICS update starting from the end of May or early June.

Sony explains that the update process will be very heavy on the phone’s hardware. Due to this, the update will only be delivered via their PC Companion and Bridge for Mac. There will not be an over-the-air update via 3G or WiFi.
