RIM’s CEO: We seriously considered Android

RIM is now in a tough situation. The company is struggling with ever decreasing sales. The company’s current CEO, Thorsten Heins, has been very open about the company’s mistakes in the past, and continues with this for the company’s plans for the future. We already know that BlackBerry 10 is the next major release of the company’s operating system. The company has obviously high hopes for this, but did they even consider anything else?

Heins revealed today to The Telegraph that his firm at one point “seriously” considered Android as the main platform. He explains that the productivity-obsessed BlackBerry crowd would have been disappointed with the “me-too” strategy known as Android. Much like Nokia, also RIM would have had a problem in differentiating with Google’s ecosystem. This led to the final decision of moving forward with BlackBerry 10 plans.
