The new iPhone retail package

Yesterday, Apple sent out invites to an event its hosting on September 12th. The invitation had a big number 5 printed on it, and this obviously led people to believe that the company will announce the “iPhone 5.” Today we get a leak of what appears to be packaging of the next generation iPhone, and the text on it shows “The new iPhone.” This is a name we’ve heard mentioned before, too. Don’t forget that the latest iPad is called “the new iPad.”

So what does this mystical number 5 on the invitation stand for? We know that the new iPhone has five rows of apps instead of four, and the original iPhone is now five years old. What if the five stands for the amount of devices Apple will announce on September 12th? So we’re getting the new iPhone, and what else? Some rumors have hinted at a refreshed iPod line, with possibly the iPod classic, iPod touch, iPod shuffle and iPod nano getting refreshed, too? All of this is just speculation, and we’ll get our answer on September 12th.
