We’ve been waiting for news regarding the iPhone 5 release date for quite some time now. Or actually, we’ve known the it should come soon, but haven’t had the slightest clue on when exactly. Today, “reliable industry sources” told KnowYourMobile that the iPhone 5 will be announced during an August 7 Apple keynote. This is also the day when iOS 6 will be officially released to existing hardware.

The iPhone refresh has usually been an annual happening, dropping roughly at the same time every year. Everything prior to the iPhone 4S was announced in June or July, while the iPhone 4S was announced on October 4. If this year’s iPhone announcement/availability will hit on August 7, it’s right in time for massive back-to-school sales.

Another option is for Apple to release the iPhone 5 in September-October, which would allow the company to focus on the Christmas selling season, which is the most significant sales opportunity during the whole year.
