Samsung is continuing their jabs at Apple with their new “Samsunged” ad. This time around the company tackles inbuilt turn-by-turn navigation apps, and once again managed to make the ad funny. I love it! :)

Absinthe A5 jailbreak

The day of an untethered iPhone 4S and iPad 2 jailbreak is finally here! Absinthe A5 was today released, and it finally brings an untethered solution for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 owners wanting to jailbreak their device.

Absinthe A5 can jailbreak an iPhone 4S running iOS 5.0 (9A334) and 5.0.1 (9A405 and 9A 406), and an iPad 2 running iOS 5.0.1 (9A405). The untethered part means that you don’t have to re-jailbreak every time after you’ve rebooted your device, the jailbreak will stay until you update/reinstall iOS.

Please follow this link to download Absinthe A5 for iPhone 4S and iPad 2. The app is currently Mac-only, but a Windows version should follow soon.

During Google’s earnings call last night, Google gave us some more information of how well Android is currently doing.

According to Larry Page, Android has now been activated on over 250 million devices. Last November the number was 200 million. Another noteworthy fact is that Android Market again has generated over 11 billion downloads.

Sony Windows Phone

Sony (Ericsson) Windows Phone

Sony (Ericsson) has previously stated that the company is not working on a Windows Phone product. Recent leaks of a Sony (Ericsson) design speaks otherwise, and shows a usual Sony (Ericsson) hardware design running Windows Phone. Today we got a new set of leaked Sony (Ericsson) Windows Phone images. We can’t really say if this is just an old prototype (the fact that it is running an old version of Windows Phone speaks for this), or something that the company is aiming to push to the market. If it is the latter, we could hear more of it at MWC next month.

ASUS Transformer Prime 9.4.2.11

ASUS Transformer Prime 9.4.2.11

Many Asus Transformer Prime owners have been plagued by a bug that is causing GPS issues. Luckily, Asus has now released a firmware update to version 9.4.2.11, which will update the GPS drivers to version 6.9.13.

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but this hasn’t provided a cure for every user out there. It is still recommended that you try and get your device fixed with this new update. Keep your fingers crossed and hope for a fix ;)

Amazon Kindle Fire

Amazon Kindle Fire

Amazon has started the delivery of software version 6.2.2 for the Kindle Fire. The biggest change in this is the addition of a full-screen mode in the Kindle Fire Silk browser. Users with a rooted Kindle Fire should obviously stay away from this update, since it will remove the root access.

Samsung Galaxy Note updated keyboard

Samsung Galaxy Note updated keyboard

Samsung has released a maintenance firmware release for the Galaxy Note. The new firmware brings with it alterations to Android that make the 5.3-inch monster easier to use. Updated features include the changes to the lock-screen, calendar, keyboard and a new torch widget. Many things have been optimized so that the device can now be operated with just one hand.

This maintenance release is still based on Android 2.3.6, so you’ll still have to continue waiting for Android 4.0. The 70MB update is currently being delivered as a Firmware Over The Air, so there’s no need to install Kies. Happy updating!

Sony Ericsson Logo

Sony Ericsson today reported a loss of 247 million euros in the fourth quarter of 2011. In Q3 2011 the company  reported a profit of 31 million euros, so the decline has been quite stunning. According to Sony Ericsson, the reasons for this huge drop comes of “intense competition”, “price erosion” and flooding in Thailand. Hopefully they’ll get their act together now when the company continues without the Ericsson name.

Sony has sent out invites to a press event they’re planning to hold at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona next week. The company will present the latest news in the Xperia line.

We’re expecting to see at least a few models announced at the event. Earlier today we got the roadmap for Sony’s 11 smartphones they’re still planning to release this year. According to the roadmap, we’ll see the Kumquat, Nypon and Pepper released in April, so MWC is the most plausible event for the announcement.
