Nokia Lumia 900 AT&T

Nokia Lumia 900

Carphone Warehouse, a large mobile retailer in the UK, has updated their page with information of the Nokia Lumia 900! The page shows that the Lumia 900 is expected to ship in June, 2012. Some earlier rumors have suggested that the European Lumia 900 will skip LTE and possibly receive a 12-megapixel camera module. Carphone Warehouse again shows an 8-megapixel camera, but LTE isn’t mentioned on their page.

Will AT&T’s exclusivity for the Lumia 900 end already in June? Will this European version differ from AT&T’s Lumia 900? A lot of questions remain, but we’re hoping to hear more of this at MWC next month!

Sony Xperia U

Sony Xperia U

The Indonesian equivalent of the US FCC has shed some light on what the Sony Ericsson ST25i Kumquat will be marketed as. According to a recent filing by Sony Ericsson, the ST25i will be called the Sony Ericsson Xperia U. However, since Sony Ericsson is moving away from Ericsson, our guess is that this will be simply called Sony Xperia U. MWC is most probably where we’ll see this officially announced.

RIM has lately been struggling with ever decreasing smartphone sales and has been in dire need of some very big changes. Now, some much needed changes have taken place, with both Jim Balsillie and Mike Lazaridis stepping down. The new CEO is the formed COO, Thorsten Heins.

Thorsten Heins will have some pretty big shoes to fill, and definitely needs to turn the company around to once again thrive in the smartphone sector. But will he really succeed? What will he do with the company’s next major smartphone version, currently called BlackBerry 10. Some rumors have suggested that RIM will even license the OS to other hardware manufacturers. It will be interesting to see how this turns out!

Sony ST25i Kumquat

Sony ST25i Kumquat

Not that long ago, an alleged Sony roadmap for 2012 leaked. The roadmap contained a wide selection of code names that we hadn’t heard before. One of those devices, the Sony LT25i Kumquat, has now leaked. The image you see above is told to be that exact device.

On the spec side of things, we’re expecting to see a dual-core 1GHz processor, 3.5-inch screen (480×854 pixels), 5-megapixel camera and Android 2.3. The device is basically a mini-Xperia S. We don’t really have other information of the Kumquat now, but we’re expecting to see it announced February at Mobile World Congress 2012.

Windows Phone Marketplace stats Jan 21

Windows Phone Marketplace stats Jan 21

AllAboutWindowsPhone has released their estimation of the Windows Phone Marketplace. According to their App Tracking Service, the Windows Phone Marketplace contains now over 60,000 applications. Keep in mind that these numbers are not official, and they should only serve as a good estimation. Nonetheless, the trend is great, and it really seems like Windows Phone is stabilizing, for now, as the third ecosystem. Developers, keep the apps coming!

Microsoft had a genius marketing stunt at CES 2012 called “Faster than Windows Phone? $100 Challenge.” The idea was to try and beat Ben The PC Guy in a plethora of challenges. The other contestant was a random person attending CES, who even got to use their own phone. The one who managed to do a task faster was the winner.

Microsoft has now posted a recap of the challenges that took place at CES 2012. The final win-ratio was pretty darn good at 88-percent.

We bet people at CES $100 that Windows Phone is faster than their phone. Watch the recap with Ben The PC Guy. See who gets smoked by Windows Phone and who walks away with $100. Watch all the challenges: http://newwp.it/fasterthanwp

Sony Xperia Arc HD?

Sony Xperia Arc HD?

It’s just a few hours after the official Resident Evil: Retribution teaser trailer was launched. The trailer is packed with Sony products, but one device comes of particular interest to me.

The phone in the image above looks a lot like the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc or Arc S, but the branding is not quite correct. There isn’t a device with just Sony branding and that look. This leads us to believe that it could be the rumored Sony Xperia Arc HD, and not the Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc/Arc S that is already available.

Lumia with 7.10.8107.79

Lumia with 7.10.8107.79

I yesterday wrote that Nokia is currently pushing out Windows Phone build 8106 for the Lumia 800, which will increased the maximum capacity of the battery. Well, it now appears that the Lumia 710 and Lumia 800 are both receiving another build, build 8107 (7.10.8107.79) to be exact, in some regions. It’s possible that Zune will install two updates at one time. First you’ll be updated to build 8106, immediately followed by 8107.

Here’s the official change log for 8107:

Update 7.10.8107.79

On-screen keyboard. Fixes an issue to prevent the keyboard from disappearing during typing.

Email. Fixes a Google mail syncing issue.

Location. Fixes a location access issue. With this fix, the Me feature in the People Hub sends anonymous information about nearby Wi-Fi access points and cell towers to Microsoft only if you agree to allow the Check In function to access and use location information.

Security. Revokes digital certificates from DigiCert Sdn Bhd to address an encryption issue.

Email threads. Fixes an email issue related to Microsoft Exchange Server 2003. With this fix, when you reply to or forward a message, the original message is now included in your response.

Voicemail. Fixes a voicemail notification display issue that occurs on some European and Asian networks under certain conditions.
