iPhone 5 metal design - Trial Production

iPhone 5 metal design - Trial Production

Rumors of the next iPhone have again gone around the blogosphere during the weekend.

Brian J. White of Topeka Capital Markets leaked that the next-generation iPhone will come with a 4-inch screen, 4G LTE connectivity and feature a unibody casing, resembling the design seen on Apple’s MacBook laptops. White’s information comes from a recent trip to Taiwanese and Chinese suppliers.

The next-gen iPhone will go into production in June, with an availability in October, 2012.

White also affirmed that Apple is working on a 7.65-inch iPad mini.

With the cost of living on the rise, not only are adults penny-pinching to support their families, but college students are also looking for new ways to tweak their dwindling budgets in order to support their newly independent lifestyles. Between textbooks, food and gas,—not to mention beer—every student is on an eternal quest for funds. Some are lucky enough to have the luxury of financial support from parents and family members. But those who aren’t so lucky must face the additional costs of being an independent adult, such as monthly bills. To make ends meet, some students forego healthy food and give up the convenience of transportation and cable. But one thing that can’t be sacrificed in this day and age, no matter how broke, is a mobile phone. Students commonly save on cell phone bills by fishing for promotional deals and packages such as unlimited services by Sprint, Verizon family plans, and t-mobile cheap cell phone plans. Most carriers provide affordable pricing plans for students. Some even offer student discounts based on their GPA, employer or honor society membership. Other than finding a cheap cell phone plan, there are additional ways for students to stay connected with friends and family without blowing their budget.

Prepaid cell phones

Instead of signing a one- or two-year contract, students can opt for a prepaid cell phone, or a pay-as-you-go phone. This way, they would only pay for the services that are used, rather than a set fee every month. And they can switch service providers without hassle if one happens to release a cheaper deal.

Text, don’t call

Some students feel they need unlimited talk time as well as unlimited text. However, only one, if any, is necessary. Because students spend most of their time in class, at the library, or in loud social settings, texting would be more beneficial than calling. Therefore, they should sign up for the least talk time on their cell phone plan and arrange their text limits accordingly.

Wi-Fi over 4G

Every student is logged onto their social media accounts all day long, whether they are active or not. Therefore, 4G connectivity is a highly desired feature for every Internet enthusiast. However, students can save a substantial amount on their monthly cell phone bills by simply giving up 24/7 Internet access and using Wi-Fi connectivity instead of 4G.

Sony Mobile Communications

Sony Mobile Communications

Nikkei reported yesterday that Sony will cut 10,000 jobs, or roughly 6% of its total workforce, in a move to make the company more profitable. Sony’s new CEO Kazuo Hirai will announce these plans on April 12th, and apparently will pursue for executives to give up their bonuses, too. Layouts will come from consolidating the company’s chemicals and small and mid-size LCD operations. The whole process is expected to last for the next two years.

Samsung Youm product

Samsung Youm demo

Samsung has demonstrated their flexible AMOLED technology at a few events earlier this year. Now this technology has taken one step closer to public availability when the company has decided to give it the name of Youm. Samsung has obviously also filed for trademarks for this name.

Samsung’s Youm can be built without glass, making it flexible, and according to Samsung unbreakable, thinner, and lighter. Samsung is expecting to start bulk production during this spring, meaning we could see it in a final shipping product sometime before the end of 2012.

Apple A5X SoC

Apple A5X SoC

Apple is reportedly using and iPhone 4S housing to test a new A5X processor designed for the next-generation iPhone. The decision to use an iPhone 4S housing means that we are not going to get leaks of the final design anytime soon.

Apple’s dual-core A5X processor debuted with the new iPad. This was specifically designed for the high-resolution iPad screen. This much graphical processing power isn’t needed on a screen the size of an iPhone, so Apple will need to scale-down the A5X in order to come up with a low-power and high performing processor for the next generation iPhone. A total of 1GB of RAM is also built into this test unit.

This new hardware prototype with the A5X processor goes internally under the name of N96. Reports from this weekend indicate that the iPhone 5 will be released in October, 2012.

Nokia Lumia 900, Amazon best seller

Nokia Lumia 900, Amazon best seller

Sales of the Nokia Lumia 900 started yesterday in the United States. Nokia, AT&T and Microsoft are all working on a massive Lumia 900 campaign in hopes that this will be a hit device. The first indications of the campaign being a hit can already be seen, when the black Nokia Lumia 900 topped Amazon’s Best Sellers list in the Cell Phones With Service Plans category. The Cyan colored Nokia Lumia 900 is currently in fifth position.

The guys over at PhoneArena have made a cool comparison video between the Nokia Lumia 900 and the Apple iPhone 4S. Check out the video and decide for yourself!

Here’s what they had to say about the duo:

PhoneArena presents a brief comparison of the Nokia Lumia 900 and Apple iPhone 4S. Stirring things up on AT&T’s lineup, smartphones need to be aware that the Nokia Lumia 900 is out for blood and setting its eyes on some of the best of the best in the market. Rightfully so, we think it’s relevant to pit Nokia’s flagship against, you know, Apple’s pride and joy in the iPhone 4S — since they’re both so gosh darn lovable in many ways…
