no responses With the cost of living on the rise, not only are adults penny-pinching to support their families, but college students are also looking for new ways to tweak their dwindling budgets in order to support their newly independent lifestyles. Between textbooks, food and gas,—not to mention beer—every student is on an eternal quest for funds. Some are lucky enough to have the luxury of financial support from parents and family members. But those who aren’t so lucky must face the additional costs of being an independent adult, such as monthly bills. To make ends meet, some students forego healthy food and give up the convenience of transportation and cable. But one thing that can’t be sacrificed in this day and age, no matter how broke, is a mobile phone. Students commonly save on cell phone bills by fishing for promotional deals and packages such as unlimited services by Sprint, Verizon family plans, and t-mobile cheap cell phone plans. Most carriers provide affordable pricing plans for students. Some even offer student discounts based on their GPA, employer or honor society membership. Other than finding a cheap cell phone plan, there are additional ways for students to stay connected with friends and family without blowing their budget.
Prepaid cell phones
Instead of signing a one- or two-year contract, students can opt for a prepaid cell phone, or a pay-as-you-go phone. This way, they would only pay for the services that are used, rather than a set fee every month. And they can switch service providers without hassle if one happens to release a cheaper deal.
Text, don’t call
Some students feel they need unlimited talk time as well as unlimited text. However, only one, if any, is necessary. Because students spend most of their time in class, at the library, or in loud social settings, texting would be more beneficial than calling. Therefore, they should sign up for the least talk time on their cell phone plan and arrange their text limits accordingly.
Wi-Fi over 4G
Every student is logged onto their social media accounts all day long, whether they are active or not. Therefore, 4G connectivity is a highly desired feature for every Internet enthusiast. However, students can save a substantial amount on their monthly cell phone bills by simply giving up 24/7 Internet access and using Wi-Fi connectivity instead of 4G.
