Nokia TV app for Lumia

According to WP7Forum.ru, Nokia is preparing to launch a new Windows Phone app called Nokia TV. The app will first be released in Finland with support for three channels: YLE, MTV3 and Nelonen. The app will allow for Lumia owners to watch TV programs by searching, browsing and streaming episodes straight to their device. This is said to work over WiFi and a mobile data connection.

Features of Nokia TV:

  • View TV shows provided by local networks.
  • Videos can be downloaded to the device (presumably for offline usage).
  • Does not use technology for mobile TV (DVB-H).
  • Search for content / programmes within the application.

My guess is that this will be a client that can view content that is currently available online. The problem with this currently is that they’re provided in Flash, and it’s not supported on Windows Phone or iOS. The Nokia TV app could allow for Lumia users to access this content. YLE’s content can be accessed at YLE Areena, Nelonen’s at Ruutu.fi, and MTV3′s at Katsomo.fi. If the app allows me to do this, I can’t wait to try it out!
