Microsoft today (un)intentionally revealed its pricing plans for the Surface RT tablet. The Surface RT product page went live in the morning, but was quickly taken down due to unknown reasons. I guess the pricing was not yet officially meant for the public’s judging eyes. Still, the price was leaked, and it’s apparently a bit more expensive than what the public was hoping for. The 32 GB Surface RT without the Touch Cover goes for a price of $599. The Touch Cover adds an extra $100 to the price. The all-inclusive 64GB and Touch Cover version sells for $699.
For comparison, the 16GB new iPad starts at $499 and ranges up to $699 with WiFi and 64GB. Given this, I don’t think that the Surface RT is overpriced like some say. I think it’s perfectly in line with the competition, and offers a competitive price for those wanting a bit more features than what the iPad offer. The Touch Cover for instance is a great addition, and surely adds value to a portable product like this.
We’re expecting to see the Surface RT hit retail on October 26th, which is the date when Windows 8 will be released.
