Low light shootout: Nokia Lumia 920 vs. HTC Windows Phone 8X

Of the Windows Phone 8 range, the Nokia Lumia 920 and HTC Windows Phone 8X are the two best models. We’ve seen numerous camera comparisons where a pre-production unit of the Lumia 920 has been compared to different smartphones, and in low light it hasn’t really been a real competition. The Nokia Lumia 920 has killed the competition in low light shootouts.

On Twitter I just saw an image where the Nokia Lumia 920 is compared to a HTC Windows Phone 8X. Both of these devices have a lens capable of an 2.0 f-stop, i.e. the second lowest possible value. Only an f-stop of 1.4 would allow more light to pass through the lens. Still, the sensor capturing the light is as important as the lens setup.

As you can see in the image above, the 8.7-megapixel BSI-sensor on the Lumia 920 is clearly a better low-light snapper than the 8.0-megapixel BSI-sensor found on the HTC Windows Phone 8X. The difference in detail in the dark areas is significant.
