Kaspersky Android Malware Q2 2012

Internet security company Kaspersky Labs today announced that the company has seen a threefold increase in the number of new malicious apps targeting Android in Q2 2012. In Q1, the company found 5,441 apps that were infected with malware. In Q2 this number had dramatically increased to 14,923 apps infected by malware.

Roughly 49% of these apps are multi-functional trojans designed to steal user information, like contacts, email addresses and phone numbers. 25% are categorised as SMS Trojans, meaning they’re able to send SMS messages to premium numbers, hence making money for the developer. 18% of the malware aim to take full control of the user’s phone. 2% belongs to the most dangerous category, labeled as Trojan Spy, with the only purpose of providing bank account access to its creator.

If this isn’t alarming, then what is!? I’d highly suggest that every Android user out there installs an approved security solution, like Kaspersky Mobile Security or F-Secure Mobile Security.
