On current Windows Phones, the limit of apps that are held in memory is 5, and in the emulator that leaked last week it’s raised to 8 apps. The emulator is running with 512MB of RAM, which is the same that current generation Windows Phone (except for the Nokia Lumia 610). The only reason for this to happen is code optimisation. More memory is left free in Windows Phone 8. It will be interesting to see whether the limit is even higher when you combine Windows Phone 8 with a device with 1GB of RAM.
