As we reported yesterday, the Nokia Lumia 900 will hit AT&T and the States on April 9th. Above you have the first Lumia 900 AT&T 4G advertisement. It focuses on the amazing polycarbonate design, with it being called “beautifully different”.

Made of a single piece of polycarbonate, Nokia Lumia 900 has a 4.3″ AMOLED ClearBlack glass touchscreen. The phone has an 8 MP main camera with Carl Zeiss optics, and a 1 MP front camera, making it great for video calling.

According to WPCentral, the Nokia Lumia 900 has received a ‘Company Use’ status at AT&T. This means that AT&T Front Seller employees are eligible to receive the Lumia 900 at no cost. They’ll have to turn in their current ‘Company Use’ phones, i.e. their iPhone and certain Android devices.

Sales of the Lumia 900 will begin April 9th. Nokia and AT&T will arrange for employee training on the Windows Phone OS on March 26th, and April 6th and 7th. First shipments of the Lumia 900 have already started arriving at AT&T stores.

This will definitely put the Nokia Lumia 900 high up on sales lists in the U.S.. We’ve numerous times heard of the Lumia 900 receiving a ‘Hero’ status. AT&T will promote the Lumia 900 like they’re promoting the Apple iPhone. Because of the Company Use status, we’ll also see employees that have a Lumia 900 and also know how to use it. This is great news for Nokia!

The Windwos Phone marketplace has now reached 70,000 applications. The Marketplace is growing with a quite steady rate of 300 new applications every day. It goes without saying that these numbers don’t (yet) cope with Android or iOS,  but after a certain limit, it’s more about the quality than quantity. Do you think 70k applications is enough for your everyday need?

Apollo

Apollo

MSNerd, who has a pretty good track record on leaking Microsoft information, has now revealed that current generation hardware will get updated to Windows Phone 8, aka Apollo.

He stated that some of the functionality found in Apollo will be left undelivered to current gen hardware, but it’s pretty obvious that you can’t get LTE or 1080p video recording on hardware that doesn’t support it.

Additionally, he informed that Nokia is in charge of most chipset support, antenna & battery design and camera functionality. Nokia still has much more experience with these technologies, than what Microsoft does. We’ll get support for other chipsets than just Qualcomm’s Snapdragon.

are there any plans of making the WP more “open” in Apollo? Like enabling USB connection, using it with Linux, more personnalisation (setting default apps)? Do you have any information on this? What is Nokia’s role in designing the WP8?

Yes. For instance, WP becomes a “true Microsoft platform”, like the Xbox & WoA(8) & you’ll see Windows Phone Companion in lieu of Zune desktop client.

Nokia’s role is in defining chipset support (beyond Qualcomm), designing the camera-to-software interaction model, antenna & battery design, languages & regional services, etc.

The official Windows Phone Blog announced today that the first Windows Phone smartphone is now available in China. The HTC Triumph/Titan/Eternity is now available together with a Chinese version of the OS. The phone is unlocked, and sports a selection of popular Chinese apps. Some social networks, like Facebook, has been disabled from this Chinese build of Windows Phone due to regulations in China.

The second wave of new phones will hit China as soon as March 28, when Nokia will release their batch of Windows Phones in China.

Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, earlier Windows Phone Tango, includes some improvements for a heavy phone user, too. The fine guys from XDA Developers have been playing around with a recently leaked ROM of Windows Phone 7.5 Refresh, and they’ve found some things that Microsoft hasn’t announce yet.

RAM efficiency has increased, with build 8773 using 122MB of RAM versus the currently available build 8107 using 153MB of RAM. This has again led to an increased amount of applications kept in memory. The current fast-app switching interface allows 5 applications, while WP7.5 Refresh will allow for up to 8 applications to stay in the memory.

The much awaited firmware update for the Nokia Lumia 800 is going public in new regions. The update will almost triple your battery time, so it is really worth the hassle!

The new versions can already be found on NaviFirm, meaning that we should see delivery of this update started in the very near future! I’m happy to tell that also the Nordic countries (our two Lumias hopefully included!) will get this update in this batch.

The new Lumia 800 update brings the following enhancements:

  • Enhanced battery standby and talk time performance
  • Battery capacity icon instead of question mark on top right of screen
  • Improved bass in audio performance
  • Soft-key illumination at all brightness levels
  • Fixes for device performance issues including self-reboots, freezes and call-ending
