According to a recent Nielsen study, Microsoft’s mobile OSs account for 10% of the smart-phone market in the United States. What they didn’t tell, is how the share is divided between Windows Mobile and Windows Phone 7. Out of this 10%, HTC accounts for 7% of the devices, Motorola for 1%, Samsung for 2%, HP for 1% and other manufacturers for 1%.

Navigon recently updated the iOS version (read changes here), and now also the Android version. Android got version 3.5.3 of MobileNavigator and it contains the following changes:

  • Address Click – ability to select an address from any app that supports address export. By clicking on an address, NAVIGON MobileNavigator will be launched to provide turn-by-turn directions.
  • Contacts as Interim Destinations – contacts are now added to an existing route as an interim destination. Moreover, this release comes with improved US address recognition.
  • Reality Scanner Switch – this feature can now be swapped to automatic and into permanent-off mode in the Settings.
  • GSM Map Download – no longer are you limited to WiFi, though it’s still advised to download maps that way to save some cash on mobile data.
  • General performance enhancements

HTC HD2HTC just released two minor updates for the HTC HD2 and the HTC Touch2. Both of these fixes a Daylight Saving Time bug on the phones.

Follow the instructions below to download and install the update on your device:

  1. Make sure you have Microsoft ActiveSync® installed on your Windows XP PC or Windows Mobile Device Center on your Windows Vista® PC. You can find Microsoft ActiveSync from this link or Windows Mobile Device Center from this link.
  2. Connect and synchronize your device with your PC via Microsoft ActiveSync® or Windows Mobile Device Center using the USB cable.
  3. To download this update select the update below and the location closest to you then click Download.
  4. Copy the update, which is an .exe file, to your device. To install the update, tap the .exe file and follow the on-screen instructions.

Note: If you perform a device hard reset, you will need to reinstall the update after the hard reset.

Windows Phone 7 was today announced with a big event in NYC. HTC was the biggest player during the Windows Mobile era, and they tend to keep that spot now with Windows Phone 7.

HTC HD7

Maybe the most waited new device is the successor for the HD2, which in Windows Phone 7 time is now called HD7. The HD7 comes with a 4.3″ WVGA touch screen, 1GHz CPU, 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording, 16GB internal storage, 576MB RAM, Bluetooth, WiFi n and a weight of 162 grams. The HTC HD7 will be available via T-Mobile in the US, O2 and Movistar in Europe and SingTel in Asia.

HTC 7 Surround

The HTC 7 Surround again is a more entertainment oriented device, with a cool new sliding out speaker. The 7 Surround has a 3.8″ touch screen, 5-megapixel camera with 720p video recording. Other than that, this device is equal to the HTC HD7.

HTC7 Mozart

The HTC 7 Mozart comes with the best camera of this quartet. It has a 8-megapixel camera, with HD video and a Xenon flash to light up your low-lite scenes. This whole thing is packed inside an aluminum unibody design. A 3.7″ WVGA touch screen and 8GB worth of internal storage also comes with this phone.

HTC 7 Trophy

The last new phone is called the HTC 7 Trophy. This phone should be the cheapest of these four phones. It comes with a 3.8″ WVGA touch screen, 5-megapixel camera and 720p video recording. HTC didn’t share any additional info of this phone. Will make a new post when we know more :)

Microsoft and Spotify today announced that a Spotify client is now ready to download for Windows Mobile 6, and a Windows Phone 7 client will follow in the near future.

Spotify features on Windows phone 6 include:

  • Listen to millions of tracks with Spotify’s constantly updated catalogue
  • Stream over WiFi or 2.5/3G – all your existing playlists are available
  • Listen to tracks and albums in their entirety. Rewind, fast-forward, pause, skip and shuffle
  • Continue to run Spotify in the background while texting, making calls, web browsing etc
  • Playlists can be downloaded and played in offline mode when you have no connection, are on a plane or underground, or abroad
  • Wirelessly sync your local files to your phone
  • On-the-fly sync – every track you add to a playlist appears instantly on mobile and computer
  • Starred tracks – tag all your favorites into a special list

Windows Live Hotmail

As we told to you yesterday, Microsoft today enabled ActiveSync for their popular Hotmail email service.

Quick Steps

  • If your device supports only one profile of ActiveSync, delete the existing ActiveSync profile on your device if you already use it
  • Enter the following:
    • URL - m.hotmail.com
    • Username – Enter full name with domain info, e.g. me@test.com
    • Domain – Leave blank
    • SSL – Enabled
    • Certificate - Accept the SSL certificate when prompted
    • Mail, Contacts, Calendar, Tasks – All can be enabled.

Supported Devices

  • The following devices have been tested against Hotmail ActiveSync
  • WM 6.x
  • WP7
  • iPhone, iPod Touch, iPad
  • Nokia E-series, S-series, N-series running Mail for Exchange application

Note that Android 2.1 isn’t currently supported due to known client issues in Android’s client. On Android 2.2 this ActiveSync be working.


Windows Live Hotmail

Microsoft is tomorrow going to enable Exchange ActiveSync for Hotmail accounts . Basically, this means that you will get push mail on your Exchange enabled phones including Android, iOS, Maemo, Symbian and Windows Mobile devices.

With Push Email, you can also sync your contacts and calendar with Hotmail’s service.

To enable push Hotmail on your beloved smart phone, simply configure your Exchange client to server m.hotmail.com, and enter your credentials.

Sony Ericsson Aspen - Black

Sony Ericsson announced Aspen in February, 2010. You’ve had to wait for a long time for it to become available, but now you only have to wait a few more weeks since it will be available in August.

The phone will have a 2.4″ QVGA resistive touch screen, a 3.2MP camera, 3.5mm audio-jack, FM radio, WiFi, microUSB connector and a full QWERTY keyboard. The phone is 117 x 60 x 12.45 mm in size, and weighs 130 grams.

Aspen will come with Windows Mobile 6.5.3 on board.
