Nokia has sent out a media alert for the first day of Mobile World Congress. The company promises to announce “significant industry news”. A live stream of the announcement will be available on Monday. I for one will be watching this stream at www.nokia.com/mwc!

On Monday, February 27, the first day of Mobile World Congress, Nokia will host a press conference, where it will announce significant industry news. The press conference will be hosted by Stephen Elop, Nokia’s president and CEO. Due to the pending public transportation disruption, doors will be opened, and accredited media admitted starting at 08:00 a.m. CET.

Nokia C5-03 White

Nokia C5-03 White

Just a quick heads-up to Nokia C5-03 owners out there, firmware version 22.0.7 is now available as an OTA update.

You can update your Nokia C5-03  firmware over OTA (Over-The-Air) or by using Windows PC applications  Nokia’s Software Updater or Nokia Suite. The Nokia C5-03  does have UDP (User Data Preservation), but its always good idea to backup all of your personal data before updating the device firmware. The update is about 32533 kB in size via OTA.

The changelog for this release is as follows:

  • Improves phone’s performance and brings you the latest features

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop

Nokia CEO Stephen Elop

In an interview with South African BusinessDay, Nokia CEO Stephen Elop told that Nokia is no longer standing on a ‘burning platform’.

The term first appeared in February 2011, when Elop wrote an internal memo where he stated that Nokia was standing on the edge of a burning oil platform, and that the company needed to make some tough decisions. The final decision was to leave Symbian sinking and choose Microsoft’s Windows Phone as their primary smartphone OS.

Stephen Elop now thinks that this ‘burning platform’ era is over, and that Nokia is now facing a new era of growth.

Nokia Belle on the Nokia 500

Nokia Belle on the Nokia 500

Nokia Belle was released for a bunch of devices last week. However, the Nokia 500 didn’t get the update back then, but now a MyNokiaBlog tipster claims that the update is live for Nokia 500 owners.

The exact software version of this update is 111.20.59. The update can be installed via the Nokia Software Updater or Nokia Suite. As with every other update, it will take some time for the update to be available everywhere.

Edit: It’s official. Nokia Conversations just confirmed that the update is live.

Microsoft Business Apps Nokia Belle

Microsoft Business Apps Nokia Belle

Microsoft today released their Business Apps suite for devices running Nokia Belle. The download is roughly 28MB, and should be available in selected regions now. Don’t panic if you still can’t see it. It will eventually reach that part of the world where you live too. The app is being delivered as a Software Update over the air. The alternative approach is to use the Nokia Software Updater on your PC.

The following programs are included:

  • Microsoft® Lync™ 2010 Mobile – for cost efficient IM, presence, audio and web meetings on-the-go.
  • Microsoft® PowerPoint® Broadcast – quick broadcast of presentations directly from PC to mobile.
  • Microsoft® OneNote™ – rich note taking with images. Syncs with Microsoft® SkyDrive®.
  • Microsoft® Document Connection – single view to documents stored on mobile, including email attachments as well as documents on Microsoft® SharePoint® 2010 sites.

Nokia just confirmed what I posted earlier today – Nokia Belle is now live for Symbian^3 users!

The Nokia Belle update can be installed on the following devices: Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia E6, Nokia X7, Nokia C6-01, Nokia C7, and the Nokia Oro. The Nokia 500 will receive it in the coming few weeks. Nokia Suite version 3.3 or above is needed to apply this update.

Nokia Belle Update 111.030.069

Nokia has finally released the Nokia Belle update for the N8, E6, E7, C6-01 and C7. The update is currently available as a wire-update via Nokia Suite.  The exact software version depends on the phone you’re using. Version 111.030.069 is Nokia Belle for the C6-01, and version 111.130.625 is Belle for the E6.

Fire up Nokia Suite to see if the update is available for you!

Nokia 801

Nokia 801

SmartPhoneGeeks.in got hold of a render of what is claimed to be the Nokia 801. The Nokia 801 will be the successor to the Nokia N8, which is still the best cameraphone out there. The Nokia 801 will run Nokia Belle, and sport NFC and a 12-megapixel camera.

Here is what is currently rumored to come with the Nokia 801:

  • Runs Nokia Belle OS
  • 4-inches AMOLED ClearBlack Display
  • 640 x 360 pixels resolution
  • NFC
  • 1.4 GHz processor
  • 512MB RAM
  • 12MP camera with dual-LED flash
  • 1080P video recording

The device is also packed in the same polycarbonate shell as the Lumia 800/N9.

It will be interesting to see how Nokia will manage to fit the 12-megapixel sensor inside this. If this is really a successor to the N8, we need good optics. The render doesn’t show a thick design, so my guess is that the camera module will make a pretty big bump in the back of the device.

A rumor during the weekend suggested that this will be Nokia’s final device to sport Nokia Belle (or any future version of it).

Eldar Murtazin just “confirmed” on Twitter that the leaked render actually is the real deal. Could we see this announced at Mobile World Congress at the end of this month?
