Samsung Galaxy Note updated keyboard

Samsung Galaxy Note updated keyboard

Samsung has released a maintenance firmware release for the Galaxy Note. The new firmware brings with it alterations to Android that make the 5.3-inch monster easier to use. Updated features include the changes to the lock-screen, calendar, keyboard and a new torch widget. Many things have been optimized so that the device can now be operated with just one hand.

This maintenance release is still based on Android 2.3.6, so you’ll still have to continue waiting for Android 4.0. The 70MB update is currently being delivered as a Firmware Over The Air, so there’s no need to install Kies. Happy updating!

Samsung is apparently working on the rumored Value Pack for the Galaxy S. Firmware build XXJVU posted by SamMobile runs Android 2.3.6 and comes with a few new features like Face Unlock, Photo Editor, ability to take pictures while recording a video, new lockscreen and more.

The firmware is apparently now in beta, and could hit devices sometime in the near future.

Samsung Galaxy M

Samsung comes out with a new Android smartphone every few weeks. Today they announced the Samsung Galaxy M, which they describe as an entry level smartphone.

The Galaxy M comes with a big 4-inch Super AMOLED screen, 1GHz single-core CPU, 3-megapixel camera, 4GB internal memory, 1650 mAh battery, and the basic chassis we’ve seen on all the other Galaxy phones. Android 2.3 together with TouchWiz is what powers this thing. South Korea will see this device available soon. There’s currently no info on an international availability.

 Samsung Galaxy Mini S5570 live

I always try to post rankings of sold phones in Finland when I find them. Now Kauppalehti has published DNA’s ten most sold phones in December, 2011. DNA is one of the largest operators in Finland.

When looking at the list below, it does come as a surprise that the Samsung Galaxy Mini is in the first spot, followed by the iPhone 4S and Galaxy S II. I guess this could be caused by many buying a cheap smartphone as a Christmas gift? ;)

  1.  Samsung Galaxy Mini
  2. Apple iPhone 4S
  3. Samsung Galaxy S II
  4. Samsung Galaxy S Plus
  5. Nokia C2-01
  6. Nokia 500
  7. Nokia N9
  8. Samsung Galaxy Xcover
  9. Nokia C1-01
  10. Nokia C5-00

Samsung Galaxy Note with AT&T branding

Samsung Galaxy Note with AT&T branding

Samsung surprised all when they brought a 5.3-inch smartphone/tablet to the market and actually managed to sell a lot of them. Now this massive smartphone is on its way to the States and AT&T. The image above is a render of the Galaxy Note with AT&T branding.

We’ll most probably see this announced at CES in little over a week. Pricing and availability remains unknown.

Samsung Galaxy S III sample image

The image you see above could very well be the first leaked image taken with a Galaxy S III. The EXIF data shows that it was taken with a GT-I9500 somewhere in Suwon, South Korea. According to Pocketnow’s research, there is a large Samsung factory over there. Also, the user who posted the image is the same who posted the first image grabbed with a Galaxy S II back in January 2011. That’s months before it was available publicly. Chances are that this same user still has access to unreleased equipment.

For the record, the Galaxy S was of model number I91xx, the Galaxy S II I91xx, and the new Galaxy Nexus I9250. Wouldn’t it be logical for Samsung to use something higher than I9250 for the next big thing? The model number of I9500 certainly speaks for this.

We’re expecting to see the Galaxy S III announced at CES in just a few weeks.

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung Galaxy S

Samsung has earlier told that they will not bring Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to the original Galaxy S. This obviously disappointed many users. Luckily it now appears that these disappointed users will still get something in the form of a Value Pack.

Samsung is currently thinking of bringing a Value Pack to Galaxy S users. This wouldn’t be the full Android 4.0 experience that so many are hoping for, but it still is something. The Value Pack will bring enhanced features like improved web browsing, multi-tasking, new widgets and so forth. Android 2.3 is what will be the base for this Value Pack.

This is almost exactly the same as Samsung did with bada 2.0 for two lonely Waves, the Wave 525 and Wave 533. They will not update these devices to bada 2.0, and will just release a Value Pack to bring some improved features to the phones.

I bet this will not satisfy a whole lot of Galaxy S users. Techy users can go the rooting route and chose other alternatives like CyanogenMod, but what about those who don’t know how to do this? What are your opinions of this?

Samsung Galaxy S III i9500

Samsung Galaxy S III i9500

Here’s something that came to disturb my Christmas Eve – a render of the Samsung Galaxy S III! The Galaxy S III, or i9500 Universal, could possibly be the first device to dual-boot into Android and bada OS.

The Galaxy S III comes with a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED 1280 x 720 pixel display, 9mm thick body, 12 megapixel camera with both LED and Xenon flash. On the front we have a 2-megapixel camera. The Galaxy S III will be available with 32 or 64GB internal memory, expandable with a microSDXC card. Connectivity is ensured by a 4G LTE radio and USB 3.0. The CPU again is Samsung’s own quad-core Exynos 4412 running at 1.5GHz.
