Samsung Galaxy S II Plus white

Samsung Galaxy S II Plus white

Eldar Murtazin leaked today an image of a device believed to be the Samsung Galaxy S II Plus. He didn’t specifically mention what device this it, but given that it looks a lot like the Galaxy S II, I’d say that it is the Galaxy S II Plus.

The Samsung Galaxy S II Plus is expected to get a speed bump to a 1.5GHz dual-core CPU. The buttons have been slightly redesigned and gone all capacitive to match with Android 4.0′s overall design. As of now, Samsung has only one device running Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, and that is the Nexus S. The Galaxy S II Plus would hence be the company’s second ICS device.

An announcement at Mobile World Congress in a few weeks is highly possible.

Samsung briefly said in a statement that the Galaxy S III will not be announced at this year’s Mobile World Congress. The company will host a separate Galaxy S III event in the first half of 2012, so it could still be a few months away.

The successor to the Galaxy S II smartphone will be unveiled at a separate Samsung-hosted event in the first half of the year, closer to commercial availability of the product.

Rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S III have been going crazy around the blogosphere today. Apparently mobilecowboys.nl, a Dutch tech site, received a hint that the Galaxy S III will arrive on March 13 in Turkey. The source they cite has proven to be accurate in the past, so this could be real. Then again, it could be false. The source couldn’t provide any physical evidence, so take this bit of news with a pinch of salt.

Additionally, the source claimed that Samsung is going to release a variant of the Galaxy S II called the Galaxy S II Plus, and a variant of the Galaxy Note called the Galaxy Note S. Both of these devices are currently planned for Q4 this year, so right in time for the holidays.

Samsung Galaxy S Advance

Samsung Galaxy S Advance

The Samsung Galaxy S Advance, or GT-I9070, leaked today. As you’d expect, this places somewhere in between the original Galaxy S+ and the new Galaxy S II.

The Samsung Galaxy S Advance comes with a 4-inch Super AMOLED WVGA (800×480) screen, a 5-megapixel camera with LED flash and 720p video recording, 1,500 mAh battery, 3.5mm audio-jack. All of the aforementioned is run by Android 2.3.6. The whole phone appears to be a bit curved, so it’s a nice addition for the Galaxy series.

We’re expecting to see this announced at MWC in a few weeks.

Samsung Galaxy Note problem

Samsung Galaxy Note problem

I was testing the Samsung Galaxy Note today and noticed a pretty big hardware bug on it. For some reason the S-Pen that is provided with the phone didn’t work in a large circular area of the screen. The circle you see above is where the pen just didn’t work. Everything inside the red circle didn’t work with the S-Pen, but it worked with your finger. This would mean that the capacitive sensor is working well, while the magnetic sensor is causing the problem.

I did some digging on the Internet and found that this wasn’t the only problem with the magnetic sensor of the Galaxy Note. A lot of users have complained about the Note’s ability to track the S-Pen, and also the lack of a real calibration utility. Corners seem to be another weak spot when using the S-Pen. I didn’t really find a real solution for neither of the problems mentioned, so for now we’ll just have to wait for Samsung to provide a fix. Have any of our readers experienced a problem like this on their Galaxy Note?
