Nokia Hackathon, Finland

Nokia Hackathon, Finland

I’ll be away from blog for the coming two days. I will make some posts, but I can’t promise you the usual 4-10 posts a day. I’m at a Nokia Hackathon event in Finland.

Be sure to follow our RSS and Twitter feeds to be the first to hear when a post is made!

Nokia is continuing their push to bring exclusive software to Windows Phone. According to WPForum.ru, Nokia is currently preparing to launch the Nokia Usage Monitor.

The Nokia Usage Monitor will allow Lumia users to track their carrier usage, such as Phone, SMS and Data usage. The app can break down the usage stats on a contact level. Another nifty feature of Nokia Usage Monitor is that it will let the user know if he or she is close to an earlier specified usage limit. Expect to see this announced soon.

AT&T Nokia Lumia 900 - black

AT&T Nokia Lumia 900

Yesterday we wrote that Nokia has topped Amazon’s Best Sellers list of Cell Phones with Service Plan. This was great news, but what is even better, is that Nokia is already in 30th place in Amazon’s Cell Phones & Accessories list!

Amazon’s Cell Phones & Accessories list is usually dominated by just accessories. The reason for this is that accessories simply cost a whole lot less than smartphones themselves. The appearance on this list means that the Nokia Lumia 900 has to be selling in insane volumes! There’s not a single other smartphone in the Top 100 on this list. Keep in mind that the Black and Cyan Lumia 900s are two different products on Amazon. Imagine how high up it would rise if it was combined into one SKU?

Mobile OS marketshare in Finland, April 9th

Mobile OS marketshare in Finland, April 9th

See that dark line in the image above that is rising almost constantly? That’s Windows Phone’s marketshare curve for Finland.

The Nokia Lumia 800 was released on February 1, 2012, in Finland, and after that the marketshare has been climbing. Windows Phone’s rise is at iOS’ and Symbian’s expense. Android is at roughly the same place that it was at the beginning of February, 2012.

Marketshare in numbers, as of April 9, 2012:

  • iOS 35.61%
  • Android 34.03%
  • Symbian 19.27%
  • Windows Phone 6.31%
  • MeeGo 1.57%
  • Maemo 5 0.74%
  • Linux 0.61%
  • Samsung 0.28%
April 3, 2012, is the last time I took a look at these figures. You can check out the previous post from here.

Nokia Lumia 900, Amazon best seller

Nokia Lumia 900, Amazon best seller

Sales of the Nokia Lumia 900 started yesterday in the United States. Nokia, AT&T and Microsoft are all working on a massive Lumia 900 campaign in hopes that this will be a hit device. The first indications of the campaign being a hit can already be seen, when the black Nokia Lumia 900 topped Amazon’s Best Sellers list in the Cell Phones With Service Plans category. The Cyan colored Nokia Lumia 900 is currently in fifth position.

The guys over at PhoneArena have made a cool comparison video between the Nokia Lumia 900 and the Apple iPhone 4S. Check out the video and decide for yourself!

Here’s what they had to say about the duo:

PhoneArena presents a brief comparison of the Nokia Lumia 900 and Apple iPhone 4S. Stirring things up on AT&T’s lineup, smartphones need to be aware that the Nokia Lumia 900 is out for blood and setting its eyes on some of the best of the best in the market. Rightfully so, we think it’s relevant to pit Nokia’s flagship against, you know, Apple’s pride and joy in the iPhone 4S — since they’re both so gosh darn lovable in many ways…
