My Nokia Blog noticed that Damian Dinning, one of those behind the N8′s camera, is currently working on bringing a software update for the N9 and Lumia 800. He simply tweeted that he is working on a software update to both devices, but didn’t go into detail on what this will bring. Motorola has just sent out invites to a media event they plan to hold on October 18. The invite is titled “MOTOROLA’S NEXT”, and suggests that we will see their next Android device announced at this event. According to the invite, the device will be faster, thinner, smart, and stronger. The indicates that this could be the Motorola Droid RAZR. We’re expecting to see a device with a 4.3-inch Super AMOLED qHD screen, and 8-megapixel camera with 1080p video capture, 1GB of RAM, and a CPU clocked at 1.2 or 1.5GHz....

The graph above shows pretty well which manufacturers provide updates to their device’s, and which don’t. HTC is the king with 13 devices running Android 2.3. Samsung again has the most devices running Android 2.1, and 2.2. Keep in mind that Samsung has the largest armada of devices out there, so they also have to do a lot of work to bring updates to their phones. ...

Google just announced that they will buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5 billion. The deal is expected to close late 2011, or early 2012. Motorola made its comeback a few years ago with the help of their Android line of phones. Today they’re a pretty big manufacturer again. Motorola just announced via their Facebook page that european XOOM owners should start receiving Android 3.1 as an over-the-air update now. The update should be delivered during the coming few weeks.
