Motorola Droid’s Android 2.1 update – Changelog released

Motorola updated their support page to show what the upcoming Android 2.1 update for Droid will bring along.

The update should be available later this week.

Hit read more to see the full changelog.

Motorola Droid’s next update to be Android 2.1

Engadget has received intel that Verizon is working on an Android 2.1 update for the Motorola Droid. No info yet on when the update will be available. Here is what they have to say about the update:

  • It’s based on Android 2.1. The build currently being circulated is identified as 2.1 version 1, mirroring the update just pushed to the Nexus One last week.
  • Google Goggles is now pre-installed (no matter how unhelpful it may be).
  • The browser’s now multitouch enabled, just like Google Maps 3.4. Huzzah! No Flash, but then again, we weren’t really expecting that.
  • Interestingly, the home screen’s still got the same look as 2.0.1, meaning it doesn’t adopt the Nexus One’s rotating 3D grid of app icons — it’s still got the pull-up drawer tab at the bottom.
  • No active wallpapers. Bummer!
  • The news and weather widgets introduced on the Nexus One are included. Maybe certain capabilities of 2.1 are going to be restricted to devices with minimum performance benchmarks?
  • Motorola Droid at 1.1GHz

Folks over at AllDroid has successfully squeezed a “little” more our of the Motorola Droid CPU, which normally runs at 600MHz. They’ve made it to run at 1.1GHz, but apparently not that smoothly. They found that 800MHz is enough for this thing to run at, without it being too energy hungry, or a crash test dummy.

    Motorola MOTOSPLIT image?

A shady image of what is clearly a computer render, here is a picture of Motorola’s MOTOSPLIT. Since it’s a render, you can’t be 100% sure that is even a real phone, but it sure looks interesting.

Motorola MOTOSPLIT has a split QWERTY-keyboard, much like the one seen on Nokia’s 6820. This thing is rumored to run on Android powered by a Snapdragon processor. Hope to see more or this thing later.

French and Italian Motorola Milestone users have started receiving the Android 2.0.1 update. Currently it is only available in those two countries, but the rest of Europe should follow shortly.

Motorola updated quite a lot in this update: including improvements to the camera autofocus and speed, added Microsoft Exchange support, touch gestures, three-way call connectivity and in-call audio quality, new equalizer, 3D landscape viewing mode for the photo gallery and music player.

    Motorola MotoROI on video

Preview of the upcoming Motorola MotoROI, a phone destined for Korea. UI a little laggy, but that should be fixable by a firmware update.

Web browser test: Motorola Droid, iPhone 3GS, Nokia N900, HTC HD2, Nokia N97 mini, BB Storm and Palm Pre

A pretty basic browser speed test between the Motorola Droid, iPhone 3GS, Nokia N900, HTC HD2, Nokia N97 mini, Palm Pre and BlackBerry Storm. The iPhone 3GS is still the fastest, while the HTC HD2 comes in at second place. The only one I’m missing from the test is Google’s Nexus One.

The European version, Motorola Milestone, has full multitouch implemented in its software. Now the guys from AllDroid has made a port of the default browser, to the Motorola Droid. Check out the video and download info after the break. The port is still in beta, so be careful while updating.
