HTC HD7 Windows Phone 7

Windows Phone 7 has started off with a big bang, and New Zealand was the first country to get the new devices with the brand new WP7 on them. When WP7 was originally announced, not a single carrier in Finland was said to get the Windows Phone 7′s in the first batch, but that has apparently changed.

Vesa-Matti “Vesku” Paananen, Business Development Executive at Microsoft, told that the first Windows Phone 7′s will ship in Finland during week 44, in other words between October 25th and 31st (tomorrow!). Localization will still be missing for now, but eventually we will also get a Suomi localized version. That will not be a problem for persons that like to use their phones in English, French, Italian, German or Spanish.

LG Panther - WP7

Microsoft today announced that Windows Phone 7 has gone gold, meaning that the code is complete and being distributed to manufacturers. The team has also managed to add a few extra features after the beta stage. For instance Facebook integration has been improved, by adding filtering, wall messages and a ‘like’ function into the People Hub.

Today is the day that the Windows Phone team has been driving towards, and we’re very excited to say that we’ve reached the biggest milestone for our internal team – the release to manufacturing (RTM) of Windows Phone 7! While the final integration of Windows Phone 7 with our partners’ hardware, software, and networks is underway, the work of our internal engineering team is largely complete.

I last posted on this blog when we reached the Technical Preview milestone, and we’ve received some great feedback since then which we’ve been able to respond to and improve the smart design throughout the OS. For example, folks loved the Facebook integration in the People Hub, but they also wanted ways to filter their contacts so only the Facebook friends they really know will show up in their contact list – we’ve added support for that. We’ve also made it easy to “like” a post right from the People Hub, or quickly post a message to someone’s Facebook wall directly.

Here is a comparison video of startup times of Windows Phone 7, Android, iOS and Windows Mobile.

The attending devices are as follows:

  • iOS 4 – iPhone 4
  • Android 2.2 – Nexus One
  • Windows Phone 7 – LG Panther
  • Windows Mobile 6 – HTC HD2

Check out this browser comparison between the LG Panther (Windows Phone 7), iPhone 4 (iOS 4.0.1) and Nexus One (Android 2.2).

Pretty neat little feature in IE on Windows Phone 7. It can load content in different tabs in the background, and as far as I know, this isn’t currently available on other platforms.

LG Panther - GW910

LG’s representative has told PCWorld that we will get the first LG manufactured Windows Phone 7 device by the end of September! That means that we will see a Windows Phone 7 release in the coming 60 days! We’ll most probably see a LG Panther, GW910, at the launch event, but will there be something more?

“We have a deep relationship with Microsoft so expect to have a couple by the end of this year,” said Ken Hong, an LG representative in Seoul, South Korea.

Could we get the rumored E900 and C900 later this year?
