Happy people around the world are currently receiving their very own iPhone 4S. We saw many rumors ahead of the launch that there could be a possible iPhone 5 on track, too. This wasn’t the case, and Apple only released the slightly upgraded iPhone 4S. It now appears that the iPhone 5 would be on track for a summer release.CNET reported that Steve Jobs was heading the iPhone 5 project, while a different team developed the iPhone 4s. A production problem caused the delay of the iPhone 5, and Apple decided to release the iPhone 4s before the holiday season. Apple now has time to work out the kinks in the production, and release the iPhone 5 in summer 2012. The iPhone 5 is said to be thinner, lighter and have a teardrop design.
In this new drop test video you see the Apple iPhone 4S compared to the Samsung Galaxy S II. As you know, the iPhone 4S didn’t get a redesign, so it still comes with a glass front and back panel. As proven in the video, the glass shatters pretty easily. What is surprising, is how good the Galaxy S II actually survives the drops. The Gorilla Glass combined with a light weight and plastic chassis proves to be the best combination.
When Apple releases a new iOS update, it is always delivered simultaneously to everyone around the globe. This could cause a massive traffic spike to internet provides. BT, a broadband network in the UK, just reported that the spike caused by iOS 5 was the company’s largest ever!

Over the last two nights, BT has experienced the highest ever traffic levels over the UK broadband network.
Traffic levels were at their highest level ever seen within BT’s UK broadband network (wholesale through BT Retail and other content providers) on Wednesday night – this was sustained from the launch of Apple’s iPhone OS 5 until past midnight.
Last night (Thursday) saw the 2nd highest we’ve ever seen on the UK broadband network, less than 10Gbits/s lower than Wednesday and sustained for a longer period of time.
This exceeded previous peaks seen during Wimbledon and major England football matches. At a rough figure we were seeing over 80Gbits/s of extra traffic on the network last night (Wednesday). That would make it about twice the volume of the previous largest event, an England World Cup Football Game – which was during UK business hours, not the evening peak. Estimated traffic volumes from the Content Delivery Network (CDN) that Apple use were nearly double the peak last Tuesday.
Over 80Gbits/s is alot! Would be interesting to know what Apple’s update servers need to sustain when delivering a new update.
Redmond Pie has a great video showing you the camera differences between the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S. As you know, the camera got bumped from 5 to 8-megapixels. The video shooting also got improved from 720p to 1080p.

Apple has finally released iOS 5 to excisting iOS users. As usual, the update is free of charge, and available via iTunes now. According to Apple, the update brings over 200 new features. The most important of these are iMessage, Newsstand, the new notification system and Twitter integration. iOS 5 also brings OTA updates to the platform, so from now on, you shouldn’t need to connect your iPhone to a computer in order to receive an update.
