Steve JobsShocking news this morning – Steve Jobs has died at the age of 56. Steve Jobs passed away after a long struggle with cancer.

While being the CEO of Apple, Steve Jobs brought the following revolutionary products to the market: iTunes (2003), the iPhone (2007), the App Store (2008), and the iPad (2010). The whole technology industry has a lot to learn from this magnificent guy. Thank you for all that you’ve done!

R.I.P. Steve Jobs!

Update: Apple has released a statement on the matter, hit View Post to read it.

iPhone 4S Sample image

Apple has released the first set of sample images taken with the iPhone 4S. The iPhone 4S has an 8-megapixel backlit camera with a max aperture value of 2.4, and a sensor size of 1/3.2″.

I would like to see how this camera does in low-light conditions. All of the sample images posted here are shot in perfect light conditions, hence giving you a false idea of how the camera actually performs.

iPhone 4S

Apple today announced the next-generation iPhone, called iPhone 4S. This is just a slight upgrade of the original iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S is a so called world-phone, with support for both GSM and CDMA networks. Inside it features a dual-core A5 chip, a 7 times faster graphics chip, 8-megapixel camera, and a personal assistant feature simply called Assistant.

The new camera can also record 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second. The gyro inside the phone will enable real-time image stabilization in both video and still shooting. According to Tim Cook’s presentation, the new sensor provides 60% more pixels and 30% sharper images when compared to those taken with an iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4S will be available in 16GB ($199), 32GB ($299), and 64GB ($399) models. Pre-orders start on October 7th, with the public release a week later on October 14th in US, Canada, Australia, the UK, France, Germany, and Japan. Twenty more countries will see the iPhone 4S on October 28th, followed by over 70 additional countries by the end of this year.

Hard Candy, a case manufacturer, has apparently gotten the measures of a mystery Apple device. We can’t say for sure if this will be the iPhone 5, or a new version of the iPod touch.

We do know that the device comes with a 4.44-inch screen, tapered edges, and a lozenge-shaped Home button. The current generation iPhone is significantly smaller, with only a 3.5-inch screen. The mute button has also changed sides, and is now located on the right side of the device. Hard Candy will manufacture 50,000 cases for these measures, so they’re pretty sure this is the real deal!

Can’t wait for the official announcement later today.

It is now official – the new iPhone will be unveiled on October 4th.

Apple today sent out press invites for an event on October 4th, under the tagline “Let’s talk iPhone.” The event will be take place at Apple’s 1 Infinite Loop HQ, which is different from their regular iPhone events that have been held in San Francisco.

It is speculated that Apple’s new CEO, Tim Cook, will present the next generation iPhone at this event. What we currently don’t know, is what iPhone Apple will release. Will it be just a speed-bumped version called iPhone 4+ or 4S, or the ‘whole’ new iPhone 5 with new internal and external components?

9t05mac has an interesting read on what the next generation iPhone will bring. They say that the biggest new feature is actually in the software, where Apple will use a system called Assistant. To let new background processes, like Assistant,  run fast enough, the phone also features 1GB worth of RAM and a dual-core Apple manufactured A5 CPU. An 8 megapixel backlit camera sensor will produce quality pictures in both light and low-light conditions. A Qualcomm Gobi Baseband chip will ensure that the device works on both GSM and CDMA networks.

So Assistant is the biggest thing on the new iPhone 5? But how does it work? It is basically a drastically improved Voice Control application, that we saw introduced with the iPhone 3GS. The new Assistant will enable you to actually talk with the phone. If it doesn’t understand all of it, or it requires more information, it will ask it from you. You’ll also see a ‘conversation log’ of what you’ve been actually discussing. You can for instance ask directions, like “How do I get to Helsinki, Finland?”, and the phone should open the Maps application with directions to Helsinki, Finland. If you’d like to make a new appointment, you could just say “make appointment with Jay at 16:00.” Also the new Reminders are accessible via Assistant, enabling you to say “remind me to wash clothes when I arrive home.”

What I found really cool is that Assistant is linked to Wolfram Alpha! I use Wolfram Alpha constantly to count how many days there are left to some event. So for instance if I now type ‘Days till October 4th”, it will show me that it’s 7 days until we should see the next-gen iPhone released. Head over to wolframalpha.com to check it out for yourself! With this integration a user will be able to ask the phone to do almost anything, including unit conversions, currency conversions, history related questions, scientific questions, dictionary lookups and so forth. I would go crazy with a feature like this! It’s like having Wikipedia in your pocket :)

Apple is preparing to announce the next-generation iPhone, aka iPhone 5, at an even on October 4th. It is highly possible Apple CEO Tim Cook will announce the iPhone 5 instead of Steve Jobs. Under two weeks to go until possibly the most anticipated phone will be announced. Stay tuned!

We updated our app icon! It’s the same look, but with more depth and dimension.

Sorry guys, the iPhone 5 doesn’t come this year. At least T-Mobile USA thinks this is the case. The image you see above is a screen shot taken from T-Mobile’s employee intranet, OneVoice, from a post made by the company’s Chief Marketing Officer, Cole Broadman. A guy in his position should get news like this, so it could be real. Mr. Broadman is quoted: “We are not going to get the iPhone 5 this year.” So that’s it, no iPhone 5 this year.
